Canadian High Schooler at Victoria Classic runs 16:05. Not bad for a 12th grader. What is the high school record? She has had a very solid year. Anyone know if she is she racing more this season?

Hopefully, National Juniors and World Juniors. She is off to U. of Washington in the Fall. That's too bad.
Hopefully, she will be back running for Canada in 5 years.
She is a great talent.
the HSR is 15:51,,, wich is weak compare to the mens.
Why too bad?
Presumably, turku is Canadian and would like to see more Canadian talent stay in the country.
Of course, many would argue that, for someone running these kinds of times in high school, the NCAA would be far more appropriate for her development than the Canadian University scene. Others will disagree. This is a big issue for Canadians.
kendra will be the top uw girl next year, without a doubt she's the top runner from canada right now. this stinks, i wish she stayed in canada!

Well, one of her freshman teammates will be the runner who just set the U.S. high school 1500m record of 4:16, and who has also run well at 3200m. So let's not anoint Schaaf as the top runner quite yet!
Kate Follett will be the top UW XC runner next year.
UW already has two girls (katie and anita) on the team under 16:05. These two got 19th and 20th at NCAA cross this past fall. Also add michelle turner (4:14) who will return for cross. She'll be up there, but maybe not #1. If UW doesnt win nationals...something probably will have gone wrong.
UW should be the only team this fall whose 6th runner is a sub-4:20 1500 runner. On the other hand, the Dawgs typically underperform in XC, as a team.
wow, based on the girls they'll have, top 3 is for sure. anything less would be a dissipointment. How did they all of a sudden get so many good girls/
Kendra just won the "slow" heat at Harry Jerome in 4:20.
She has the same high school coach as Simon Bairu. I have to give the guy credit he gets things done. Also has coached Danette Doetzel? not sure on spelling. Sean Fleming (HS 14:36 5km) and Darren Mazzei as well.
UW was ranked 19th at the start of cross and finished 8th. How is that a disappointment?

I don't know, it's hard to say. An alarming number of talented high school runners have emerged burnt out or injured after going to the US. Yes, the same could happen in Canada, but the CIS is much less competitive. No one's going to push runners through three seasons collecting points.
Here's a list from recent years who have disappeared:
- Henok Lechebo, 22nd at WXC Juniors in 2004
- Mike Woods, 3:42 and 7th at World Juniors in 2004
- Jeff Scull, emerged from the US to run some great times this year
- Amy and Alyson Kohlmeier
The NCAA offers better competition but isn't great for long-term athlete development.
Most years it's the opposite. Last year was a hopeful sign.

first of all, who was jeff scull in HS???? The guy has done great things at syracuse but remember he was a 3:55 1500? 1:54 800? correct me if im wrong. What Fox has coached him to at syracuse is excellent compared to his HS PR's. So kudos to him. As for US vs Canada. You have to give props to the canadian syst. Coolsaet, Gillis, Schiebler all canadian collegiates. Sully has been a freak for many years, Watson, Morrison, Milne and several others have also faired well in the US system. Both have produced top level athletes.
The lady huskies will be a real strong team next year
They got 3 returning all-Americans
- Anita campbell, Katie Follett (XC)
- Amanda Miller (1500m)
They got 2 amazing freshmen recruits
- Christine Babcock (4:16 1500m, 4:33 1600m both fed. records and Kendra Schaff (16:05 5k, 20th World jr. XC)
They got 2 amazing sophomores
- Lauren Saylor, Marie lawrence
She shall be going to World Jrs. in 1500 and 5000m.
