how good was Craig Masback in high school and college?
Malmo,
You should have done more research on this.
NOT!!
Great job!
VA doesn't get credit for Martin Keino?
Not sure if this affects anyone, but here is a question...
This doesn't really apply to me at all (because my best 1600 was a 4:43 back in high school), but my own situation got me thinking.
I was born outside the US to American parents working overseas. We moved back and I grew up in one state and then went to college and continue to live in another state.
I can't be the only person in this situation.
What happens, for less-than-super-important lists like this, when someone moves around a lot? Which state gets the credit? The state to which the runner pays income tax? Where s/he votes? Insures his/her car?
Say you grow up in Oklahoma (lived there your whole life until college) but run for University of Texas. Then you run 3:59.2 for one mile indoors. You're credited as Oklahoma, right?
And then you move to Eugene to train post-professionally and run a 3:57.2. You pay taxes, vote, insure your self (health) and your car in Oregon. Does Oregon get the sub-4 mile for its list? Or does Oklahoma, because you were born there?
Say you move again, for California, and run 3:55.4. Same question.
It's a ridiculous set of hypotheticals, but for somewhat mobile runners, I'd be curious to know how they affect (or if they affect) these tabulated lists.
i'm pretty sure shane stroup of md has gone sub 4
OH-Jeff See?

You should have said it in your first sentence.
It's easy. It's where you think your hometown is. Most people consider their hometown residence to be the State where they went to high school, or had spent a substantial portion of their childhood.
No need to burn out any brain cells on this one.

Pretty sure he hasn't.

No. In case you haven't figured it out, the list is one of American kids.

Yes, right in the paragraph labeled 'OH', hidden in the words 'Jeff See'

Thanks! Damn criptic fonts.
This reminds me of the Millenium edition when Sports Illustrated had the 50 best athletes from the 50 states.
Carl Lewis, who made his name in Texas, but was born in AL, went to high school in NJ, college at the U of Houston, Olympic champ while a Texan representing the SMTC of California.
They gave him to NJ. Tony Soprano musta been so proud.
For a moment I thought I had posted the Cyrillic version.

I couldn't imagine why Lewis would consider his hometown to be any place other than Willingboro, NJ.
If its american kids then why does lopez lomong count? he wasn't born in NY but rather Africa
Lopez is an American, he isn't a mercenary. It's not that hard to figure out.
because he's an american. his 'hometown' is in NY (Where he went to HS)
