seriously, he gets 2nd at NCAA's, beating a stacked field and theres no discussion

Sophomore from Port Byron, IL. Won the small school mile in 4:09 his sr. year. Tons of potential, I think his 800 pr is 1:50. He's the best kept secret in collegiate miling no more.
He got into the 1:49' For the longest time, I thought his name was Dominic, but I was wrong
Sorry I meant I thought his name was Donovan not Dominic before I got straightened out by the Hird brothers.
He ran 3:41 as a freshman. People just didn't take notice.
his kick was absolutely amazing! he made everyone else (aside from Manzono) look like they were standing stille

northern iowa is a rough place to train. all they have is that flat little roller rink inside the unidome last time i checked. good for this kid!
I think he ran a 4:01 Mile indoors his freshman year too.
He won Class A (small division) in Illinois his senior year, and if I recall correctly he split something like 2:11-1:58 or 2:10-1:59 to run his state time. He absolutely destroyed the field.

are you implying they do not have an outdoor track? if so, that is false
Cedar Falls is definately a tough place to train the winter, but we do have tons of trails and UNI has an indoor and a very nice outdoor track.
I'll just tell you all now for the sake of information.
I went to high school with Dorian at Riverdale High School in Port Byron, Illinois.
He was state champion in the 1600m both his Junior and Senior year, each time breaking and setting the state record.
At one point in his senior year, he had the fastest mile, until someone in California went a half second faster.
He's a phenomenal athlete, and a good friend. I was there when he signed his intention papers, and he hasn't looked back since.
nope- wasn't implying that at all. what i was insinuating however, is that it gets colder than shit there during the winter. unfortunately, in that case, all you do is either brave the cold outside for track work, or run the roller derby rink.
UNI is indeed a tough place to train, and they have a nice miler in their midst.
That being said, their football team is highly overrated. My Delaware Blue Hens, runners up to the powerful and very BW (Bowl Worthy) App State football team last year- those same Hens led by First Round Pick and future NFL great, Mr. Joseph Flacco, as well as soon to be Tennesee Titan RB, and FCS scoring champion Mr. Omar Cuff (aka the Legend), came into their Dome and left with their UNI football scalps, rightly ending the fallacy of UNI as a FCS powerhouse. Most of Northern Iowa knows of what I speak.
This might be the greatest Dorian since Dorian Gray, and certainly since Zane Gray, and he certainly trains in a better town than Zanesville, Ohio.
Go Dorian, onto the trials and into our collective heart and soul. Not to be confused with the band, Collective Soul. Oh, I once saw them at a rundown theater in Ft. Myers about 12 years ago.
but I digress.
bump
Thanks for providing a bunch of completely useless hyperbole

UNI Athletic Profile: http://unipanthers.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/ulrey_dorian00.html
If Ulrey had gone to a BCS school, EVERYONE would have already known about him, but since he chose to go to a Missouri Valley Conference school he has flown under the radar and not gained national recognition. That is until Saturday. Most of the people who post on this board will probably forget about him in a day or 2, until the NCAA meet next year.
Go MVC
Hey I know that being from Illinois, that we are loaded with talent. This guy came from a small school and ran a 4:09 1600 at state his senior year in super hot weather. The next kid out of some small school in Illinois, Peter Callahan, yeah you heard it hear first. This junior just ran 4:16 in a full mile at the MW distance gala, this kid has raw talent. He bareley runs around 35 mi per week.
