1:47.1 5th place....from a buddy at the meet
the field went out slow and webb was last at 100.. After 200 (25.9 for alan), webb moved up and Webb was near the front in 3rd or so at 400 (52.7 ). At 600 Webb was 120.01ht but then the 800 boys ellerton and burley threw down and webb couldnt respond.Ellerton won convincingly in 146.07 to whoever finished 2nd 146.87. Burley was 3rd in 147.00. Webb ended up fifth I. 147.41 as the Oregon. Track club guy passed him near the end (147.41).
Hard to say what it means as they went out slow. He ran pretty even last 400 but clearly didnt have any finishing pop as the 800 boys did in the last 200.
Thanks for the results Robert. Ouch. Webb's going to have to really pull one out of the fire at the US Trials.
I hate to say it (I support all runners--- except druggies), but it seems that Webb might not be able to make the team. Maybe he needed a lot of years to build a base again.
Rojo, any other results from the 1500?
Wow, I support Webb more than any other US athlete. I think he honestly is the future. But this is bad. This is beyond bad. There are some many college guys who would roll him right now it's not even funny. I don't care to hear anymore he is peaking for Beijing. In fact, the NCAA guy's who just want a chance and some of he fringe Pro's who have a glimmer of hope are going to be roaring to go in Eugene. Webb in fact looks like he is NOT ready and I wouldn't be surprised to see him miss the final.
I will take my words back if he can pull it together, I will admit if I am wrong, but I truly feel bad about this and won't stand here as cheer. It's embarassing that he can't get his act together in the most important of years for our sport. People get ripped in other sports and I am going to rip him, he is the future (no present) and he needs to be ready to represent this country. And he is doing a terribly job of it.
Also, I can't stand Lagat, he is as American as Toyota.
Oregon guy ran 147.14. Watching the race on tape, Webb just couldn't gain ground , he didnt really lose much until last 50.
In the 1500 for women, Willard got Olympic a and ran 406 as gallo was 2nd 407.28.
In firs 1500, sakala won in 341 low.

Lagat has been training and running in America for longer than Webb and for most of his adult life.
any updates from the women's steeple or 800?
shizzy, Well put!
I feel the same way!
Webb hasnt done anything right in a long time....sad
I hope we are both wrong....
tactical race, Webb runs a 1:47.
its not bad. about where he was in Pre.
Lets make an assumption- he's probably doing workouts and has in no way rested for either of these races. In fact, he doesn't appear to be pushing hard at all. Perhaps he is using these races as training?
One more on week, one off week, and then the trials. In my estimation he will be in 3:50 shape, with a kick. If the trials are tactical there is a chance he may not make it. Lomong, Wheating, and Manzano are going to be fighting very hard for spots. There is a very good chance someone big (Lagat/Webb) isn't going.
And with the level of talent, there will likely be more than 3 A-standards.
first of all 25 at 200 and 52 isn't all that tactical. at Ncaa's today they were out in 51. so a little off that isn't all that tactical. if they were 27-54 or 26 at 200 then you could say tactical, but since when is 144-145 pace tactical?

When people say this it really makes me wonder about them. Have you ever met Lagat? Have you ever heard him speak? Have you ever seen him compete? He is one of the most thouroughly "stand-able" people in the sport.
Is there any other guy who is capable of running sub 1:44 who would struggle to go under 1:47 at any point in their training? If yes, would that point be this far into the season?
Steve Sherer wins the 1500 in 3:36... not too shabby
top 1500. George mason guy did a good job of rabbitting early and then Webb continued it. .155 h and 238.9 at bell. At this point lukezic wanted to go around Webb but Webb kept going until 1200 in 253. Fromm 1100 to 1300 they didnt really go any faster than 29 high but then they started to kick. Sherer wins in 336.81 yes .81. Mclary 336.91. Lukezic 337.51 and myers 338.93 and king I think 340.66 were all the top finishers.

anyone else under 340?

Jeez...You guys are HILARIOUS! Webb has run 1:43.9 (basically 1:44) ONE TIME with a 2nd best time of 1:46 mid and the letsrun community views him as a 1:43 guy in a class above these guys.
Webb ran his super fast 800m last year in peak form. He is not at the same level of fitness he was in last year, nor is he sharp.
1:48.0-1:49.2....or DNF. He won't win either.
Take it to the bank.
Webb ran a 143.8x without specialisation for the 800m... so yes that does make him a 143 calibre guy... sorry to have to point that out but he ran 147's in high school... so if he were still in high school maybe someone would be competitive....

Some people are really holding onto hope. Webb has no shot at making the team unless the other guys really screw up. The field is going to be loaded. Let's just face it.
This isn't part of some huge plan to peak in Beijing. Webb and his coach messed up his training in the most important year in his career. They pushed it too hard and this is not the first time. They did it in the first year that Alan went pro (remember the 6hr long workouts?) They also did it the year Webb was working on his strength (ran a great 10k in March/April and was finished). Webb needs to fire Razco. When you have someone as talented and determined as Webb (not to mention someone that puts tons of pressure on himself), the best thing a coach can do is tell them to rest and take it easy. Razco obviously hasn't done that.
