So he actually ran around 1:06:20. That's still a jv time on the national scene; probably worth about 30-flat for 10k at altitude so maybe 29-low at sea level.

It's at altitude, and he won by six minutes. To win by more than six minutes would have been impolite.
Honestly folks ... the dude won the race, it was not competitive for him, it was at altitude, you have no idea what he was thinking, what his training was coming into this race, etc. Anyone here ever train through a race? Anyone here ever shut it down in the second half of a race when they have the win? Or do you all race wondering what the hell they are going to say about you on this board? To write him off at the trials next month is plain stupid. If he plans on racing at the trials, his competitors won't.
time to end this thread. the guy is self centered and i hope we never hear about him after this year.
Stick a fork in him!
He's "self-centered?" How do you get that? And, well...isn't running a pretty "self-centered" activity anyway?
Go Jason Parks!

he declined to represent his country in international competition after qualifying in the trials (and grabbing the prize money), in races that were FOR THAT SPECIFIC PURPOSE. I will never utter his name again.
If you are referrign to XC nationals, participation is often compulsory or near-compulsory (major financial swing for running vs. not running) for runenrs who are under contract to any one of several athletic gear manufacturers.
There are also 2 purposes for the race -- US championship and World XC qualifier.
Suggesting that he HAS to follow on to Worlds if he is disinclined to do so is unpatriotic? That seems counter to the kind of US that patriots are supposed to love -- the US's first document, that formally declared it to be an independent nation, indicates that "life, LIBERTY, and the pursuit of happiness" are inalienable rights endowed by
their Creator, not by the LetsRun.com message board.
This is the most pointless thread in the world and, contrary to what was posted above, the Rocky Mountain Half does award prize money, just not to professional runners, so Culpepper was out of that from the start. Give the guy a break, I would love to see any of you tools run even a 1:15 half at sea level on a perfect day.
What are you talking about? "the Rocky Mountain Half does award prize money, just not to professional runners"...first of all, that can't be true. Second, if it IS true that is the most absurd thing I've ever heard of in my life.
I have to think it could be true because it's in Denver/Boulder area, one of the most ridiculous areas in the country.
How about this one...the Colfax Marathon this year paid prize money to Masters, but not overall.
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
