You're right. If you ask Jeff Galloway, Amby Burfoot, or Bill Rodgers, they will all tell you that their Wesleyan education was second-rate and they wish they would have gone to a larger university.

And I have plenty of friends who try to get jobs in major companies and once their prospective employer finds out they went to a NESCAC school, they simply invite their colleagues in the room and gather 'round for a big laugh. This is especially true at companies like Proctor & Gamble, AOL, Morgan Stanley, Colgate-Palmolive, or even the Yankees, because all of the CEO/President's of these companies went to NESCAC Schools.

Keep drinking the kool-aid.

I follow DIII XC for years as a NESCAC grad. I applaud the NESCAC performances for this year, very good. I need to also give North Central their due credit. I ran against them in early to mid 90's. A few years ago there were posters here blasting them for a down year after like 30 good ones. What I've seen is that they are are a class act program with great competitors who had a very good year. I realize it's difficult to embrace continued success, but I simply want to acknowledge that I notice.

wahh waahh my school is the best

my school can beat up your school

my school had 104% of its graduates make a bazillion dollars before they even graduated and the average SAT score for incoming freshmen was 3000

It rejected every single one of its applicants and yet still had an acceptance rate of .001% because my school is also the premier research institute for paradoxical measurements

furthermore, my school is simultaneously entirely focused on undergraduate work instead of graduate research, which makes it the best undergraduate school ever- and yet our graduate students are also the smartest ever

my classmates get hired for jobs that have nothing to do with their degrees because my school is so awesome- I was waitlisted and was eventually not even admitted to my school, and yet the Princeton Review ranks my notice of waitlist as worth more than degrees from every other school in the country combined

my school is bigger than Jesus and rock n' roll and cocaine

. . .can we go back to talking about running now?

shitty internet at home. . . I was trying to post that for over an hour

apologies to the thread

Mike Spain of North Central has to be one of the more underrated runners in the country- 14:40 5k or so last year as a freshman, plus his cross season this year? Impressive!

Thanks for posting this. I completely agree with what you said, and that it needs to be said. I did not attend North Central (I never even ran against them), but that is a total class program (win or lose) and a total class coach (greatest cross country coach ever). Seeing them back in second was a feel good story for me, even though I have no connection to the program. Congrats, NCC.

Don't mean to jump the gun here...

But Cortland and NCC could be quite the duel next year if everything pans out the same, as both return 5 runners...

Scoring just the returners, dual meet style, Cortland has the edge, 26 to NCC's 29.

Taking out all the senior team runners, Cortland still has the slight edge, 87 to NCC's 91.

Of course this is just speculation, as all the same teams most likely will not qualify, etc..

Looking deeper into this, Cortland's 6/7 returners (who, on any given day, could have been 5, 6, or 7 this year) look to have the edge over NCC's 6 and 7 returners, which could turn out to be huge at NCAAs. Cortland's 6/7 returnee's were both less than 5 seconds behind their 7th runner at their Regional meet, which would push back NCC's fifth just a bit, and as you can see, every point is going to matter.

And who knows, there might be some team out there training their asses off and come November, will be right in the hunt too!

Nathaniel Hird from NCC still has eligibility for cross country and I believe is coming back to run.
