Wow, Williams is a true powerhouse this year. I guess it wasn't surprising though after looking at NE Regionals.

Someone with a nice team list 1-8 would be my best friend right now.

NE men
RE: 2008 DIII XC 11/22/2008 12:13PM - in reply to NE steps up Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
NE men underrated throughout the season. Those who said Williams would place highly and more NE individuals than in the past would be All-American obviously correct. Trinity's result is surprising, but makes a lot of sense if you look closely at regional results. Depth in the region was there too but some teams just tanked at regionals (keene, mit) and nats (amherst)

My original post:

the letter why wrote:

I looked at some past nationals results, and I think I'm going to defend my pick of Williams (who I feel has been HIGHLY underestimated on this thread).

Kosgey is very underrated and I have seen him in very few top-10 picks. However, Faller is better than last year, Kosgey has not lost to him and Faller was 18th last year. I put Kosgey around 10th, possibly a little higher.

Perlis and Christian are around 20 seconds behind him. Looking at the last 3 years' results, this would put them between 25-35.

Chaffee and Raduazo are about 15 seconds behind that, which is between 45-55.

That puts Williams between 150-190 points, which is a podium team any year.

*Actually, I forgot to take out individuals in this, so that gives me even more leeway here. Based just on 2005, they would average 10 scoring places or more faster. That's 100-140 or so, which is good for top 2 most years.

You can argue that I overestimated their guys, but I only picked them for 4th. I think they'll be a surprise to many, but shouldn't be after dominating NE regional.

mad props to Trinity for their 7th place showing. Wow. Unexpected.

This is funny because on the women's side, Trinity University (Texas) was unranked two weeks ago and just finished in 6th. In fact I'm looking on the ustfccca page and they were ranked 3rd in their region on the last regional poll. Keep in mind that's third in the South region. Up to 6th in DIII. Not too shabby.

Hats off to Jesse Schneider; his left shoe fell off when he fell about a quarter mile into the race, and that thing had to be freezing off the entire time. He toughed it out to run pretty well though.

And yet more NY frontrunning: Cortland has an excellent chance at the Triple Crown this year! In addition to their distance strength they have outstanding point potential in the other events of track and field, with the possibility of scoring in a dozen events or more.

So true, Schneider ran one of the gutsiest races ever at DIII NCAA's. Though to correct you, he wasnt one of the 3-4 NYU guys to get knocked down around the first turn, along with about 10 others.
Schneider had his shoe clipped right after the mile and it went flying off. He just kept rolling through the field and was right there with 600 left.
NYU had 3 of its top 5 from conference hit the deck, killing its team chances, which with 2 AA's would have been pretty good for a spot on the podium.

Congrats to all the top teams, very competitive race in some ice cold conditions.

Congratulations is in order for Heidelberg College!! They always seem to come on at the end of the year when it counts. It doesn't matter what coach they have with them, because their heart and bravery will carry them when people count them out. They weren't even ranked in the top 10 at their Regional and finished 19th defeating conference rival Mount Union in the process. Spectacular race!
Also, great job to Ohio Northern! Best finish in school history I believe. These upcoming track seasons should be exciting!

Thanks for the results!

CONGRATULATIONS CORTLAND STATE!!! Great job, Geneseo!

Looks like NYU had a tough race--only six finishers, did someone DNF/DNS? Still tops among the UAA schools, and great race from Schneider...

Based on their run at regionals, that was a bad run for CMU as well. Both NYU and CMU could have been easily top 10.
Enjoy

Cortland is not nearly as strong in the sprints as they were last year, so the Triple Crown might not happen. Especially with Willie Hordge from BSC coming back for Outdoors...
