Can Cortland beat out the '93 NCC team for lowest point total? They have the guys up front to place high, but is the rest of the field weak enough for Cortland to put 4 in the top 6 like NCC?
my bad, insert that laugh here :-P

After reading seth dubois interview it is clear that cortland's ultimate goal is to do this. I think its definitely a possibility!

Ok. Cortland looks good. But not that good. I would say a more realistic goal is to see if they can score less points than the Calvin squad from two years back, when they beat NYU. 4 in the top 6 is not even in the realm of possibility.
Granted, the field is much deeper than in '93, but they will not come close to putting 4 in the top 6.
What teams are the most capable of upsetting Cortland at Nats?

You don't have to put 4 in the top 6 to set the record...
Cortland will most likely not put 4 in the top 6, but they will still have a very realistic shot at breaking the record. I could see their top 5 all in the top 15/20 and 6 and 7 will have legit shots at All-American as well.
I can't really see any team upsetting them come Nats, they have front runners and depth, a deadly combination.
My podium teams are Cortland, Calvin, NYU, and Stevens Point/NCC will be a nailbiter.
Nobody has Butzler's leg speed.

NYU? Really? Besides Schneider they graduated their entire varsity team. They won't even finish top 3 in their conference.

They'll lose to CMU. Emory will probably beat them as well. Maybe even Case.

Have you guys looked at the results from the past weekend? NYU is still strong. They\'ll have to run real well to get on the podium, but they are no joke and will certainly be top 3 in their conference.
i've heard from an undisclosed source that after the oshkosh meet, willy kaul was run over by a golf cart. this seems worse than merely being hit by a golf cart. he reportedly no longer has legs.
I heard he was on a cool-down when out of nowhere came pastel addidas and a golf cart, although he ran wall this past weekend he needs surgery
what are the chances of williams' edgar kosgey?
he won the invite at fordham, with 178 runners, many div. 1, and won a williams invite by 37 seconds in 25:48 on a tough course (I think that was also a course record for williams runners and holtschulte, the national champ, would have run that course frequently).
he was 36th last year but I believe he won new englands and nescac's and I saw a 1:52 800m for him in the spring but no results outside of the 8.

right, they'll be 3rd. cmu 1, emory 2.
Kosgey is a dark horse. He did poorly last year, finished 36th. It's hard to know how he will do though. He is East African, which means he may not have tapped into his potential yet. The other Kosgei was a 2:12 800 runner in high school. I dont know much about Kosgey but last year could have been his first season running cross. Anyone know?
His first season was two years ago, but once he had some base under him, he ran pretty well in track that spring and since. I doubt 25:48 was a course record since Holtschulte ran mid 25's there this past weekend at the alumni meet, so I'm inclined to think he went faster before. At any rate, I would be surprised to see him make a bid for the win, but I would certainly call him a favorite for top 10.
On that note, Williams and Amherst both look like contenders for podium spots to me, though perhaps being slight longshots.
Martin Fashion will be in contention for the individual title.

Did Stevens Point coach Rick Witt hit him while Willy was on his cooldown during the womens' race? I noticed the ambulance at the bridge going to the back loop of the course.
Does Witt still wear those pink or light blue Adidas shoes, too? WTF
I think we'll be able to find out a little more about him sometime over the next couple of weeks.
Williams' Kosgey will have to get by Tufts' Jesse Faller and Trinity's Norte at regionals before he can think about winning nationals. Faller was 6th at Open New Englands at Franklin Park (D1, D2, D3), and was 18th at Nationals last year. Norte is a perennial contender, especially when he is running well (won regionals as a soph).
