If Tim wants to better himself fine. But it is more than that. He is selling lies. He is passing himself off as some elite athlete and how it is possible through raw foods. He is not elite. And he is making money off of this.
And of course not all the runners not in the top three of "the marathon" are con-artists. What is "the marathon" you are talking about? The Olympic Trials? I would like to see how many of the people in the marathon trials are raw. The con-artists, such as Tim, aren't in the Olympic Trials. They are the ones like him who have no chance whatsoever to get there but convince people they are on their way as though they have any sort of shot.
You sir, seem to be an angry, angry man. I still don't see how he is "selling lies". He has a google-ad-sense-ad up on his site...oooohhh...crazy capitalism...sure, he's asking for sponsorship, but it's up to a company to decide if they want to attach their name to what he's doing. He isn't selling snake-oil, vitamins, etc.
What he's doing at 40 seems plenty elite to me...there is more than one arena to compete in. He's getting up to the top of the mountain running community and holding his own with the stair running. Yeah, that's not Allen Webb's chosen discipline, but there are quite a few people competing in them, and being elite there means being at the top...which he is.
Tim obviously isn't going to make the Olympics at this point, but I still don't see how you can begrudge a man for dreaming big and putting it out there for all to see.
I'm done with this part of the thread. Go to take your xanax and get back to bashing high-school runners, or whatever you do in your spare time.
