How is the global food shortage the result of ethanol usage? It's actually the result of oil usage and shortage. Come on man. They're called eyelids open them up every once in a while.

Whether or not you like Al Gore or global warming, how do you justify the role of humans on this planet and the creation of destructive chemicals. The fight over who's right is irrelevant. We should all be aiming to make reproducible energy because it's the smartest idea, not because of politics or global temperature.

the February 2008 Southern Hemisphere sea ice extent was much above the 1979-2000 mean. This was the second largest sea ice extent in February (27% above the 1979-2000 mean) over the 30-year historical period, behind 2003. Sea ice extent for February has increased at a rate of 3.4%/decade.

People are growing food for fuel instead of food for food. Perhaps you haven't noticed, but corn is an important ingredient in many foods and an important feed source for livestock. And it's not just corn being grown for fuel instead of food.

Humans have the right to live on earth too and if every creature that produces CO2 needs to justify itself, then every creature that ever breathed has explaining to do. Before the entire world economy is turned upside down by draconian restrictions in fossil fuel use, the charlatans (happy?) need to actually demonstrate that: a. there is warming, b. it is a problem, c. the warming is man-made, d. the cure for the problem isn't worse than the problem itself.

They haven't even shown that there is warming yet, so maybe we ought to hold off with the cure that's worse than the disease.

The climate models developed by scientists are tested against vast arrays of temperature data collected from many cities over many years. You are testing your "global warming doesn't exist" theory with data from 1 day in 1 month?

So, we have Joe from Denver who is cold vs. sophisticated models developed by scientists who have spent most of their academic lives studying climate change. I don't claim to understand the work that goes into modeling climate change, but I have good sense enough to believe the people who do (e.g., IPCC).

How is it a better idea to create harmful chemicals than to produce clean and renewable energy that doesn't negatively impact the world around us? Regardless of whether we're increasing or decreasing the temperature of the planet, how is it a bad idea to try to switch to renewable and clean fuels? Once your group of retards can answer that we'll all be square. No one cares about temperature changes, we care about the state of the earth.

Of the available options you will find only fossil (coal, usually) and nuclear fuels can be used to generate large amounts of cheap, reliable energy.

"Renewable" or "sustainable" alternatives are Fairy Tales.

They can generate very expensive energy, in small amounts, inconsistently.

People prefer cheap and reliable, always.

Moreover, we have gotten quite good at dealing with the pollution from modern energy sources.

When you say it should have gotten warmer over the past decade... if we compare 1997 with 2007 (the last complete year of data), I think you will find that it has got warmer.

Or even better, compare 1988-1997 with 1998-2007... longer periods are more interesting than year by year.

Obviously if you want to choose 1998, a peak El Nino year as your reference, you really need to find another peak El Nino year to compare it with... obviously you wouldn't choose a La Nina like 2008, even when you do finally get a full year of data.

Or did you have a different definition of past decade in mind?

We feed more corn to cows than goes into ethanol, in fact, our cows eat better than most 3rd world people.

Nevermind that cows aren't designed to eat corn, and would be much healthier eating grass....but then, that isn't the point is it?
