David Oliver 12.95 @ Doha 5/9/2008 10:02AM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
he ran 12.95 with a 2.0 legal wind which ties him for 8th best performer of all time. no one was even near him as he won by .43 seconds. carol lewis did a nice job of downplaying the performance calling it a "good time". the only people who have run faster are considered among the greatest of all time in the 110h.

I'm not criticizing Oliver since it's obvious his performance was great, but I wonder why so many people run great times at this meet. Isn't this where Gatlin ran 9.77? Is the track super hard?

Umm 0.226 is pretty normal I thought. Considering anything under 0.100 s is considered illegal...

no, .226 isnt that fast in a straightaway sprint race. in a 200/400 that wouldnt be that bad i suppose, but not in a 110h/100 race.

Reaction of 0.16 is pretty much middle of the road. The bulk are between 0.13 and 0.19.

likely a state-of-the-art track present ( but they have iaaf limits to contend with )

however, it may have something to do with the weather - hot conditions favorable for sprinting & ?stadium configuration somehow tends to give a lotta nice following winds just around 2m/s value ( some nice winds for sprints jumps here :

Wasn't Wariner supposed to be in the 200? He's not in the results

i think wariner has a bit of fear racing merritt over 200 meters. merritt has a much better pr (19.98 vs 20.19) and has already popped a good 400 this year as well. hopefully this doesn't turn into them ducking each other like we have seen with so many other top athletes. basically i think wariner got scared and pulled out of the meet. it has to be a huge boost to merritt's confidence, he ran a good time and destroyed the field.

hot and humid air has the least density and is the best for sprinting
