Very amazing story!
Very amazing story!
Nice story, but the state of Missouri has already seen its first sub 4 minute mile....decades ago. Jim Ryun ran a 3:58 at the Big 8 Indoor meet in Kansas City, MO. in the late 60s on that tight, 12 lap board track.
The website appears to be aware that it has been done indoors in MO:
"Since then more than 300 Americans have accomplished the feat but no one has ever done it outdoors in the State of Missouri."
ok, I see that the post specifies Outdoors. I know that Charlie McMullen at MU broke 4 minutes, but I guess he never did it at a home meet. I hope that you guys/gals there in the area will support this great cause.
sorry I should have explained better:
WILL THE STATE OF MISSOURI SEE ITS FIRST EVER OUTDOOR SUB 4 MILE TONIGHT!!!?!?!?
No Missouri will not see its first outdoor sub four minute mile. You only have one guy in the field that has ever done it and he isn't even in that great of shape.
It will be a cold day in hell before I recognize Missour-ah!
Thanks for posting this. Whether or not the time is sub-4, it should be a great event and for a very good cause. Good luck to everyone competing, and for all those who are organizing it.
Brother Colm, Fife is in the best shape of his life right now. Will of course be tough to go under 4 but if anyone is going to it will be Fife...
It is currently 51 degrees and windy. The wind should die down this evening but at 7 or 8pm when the race starts it will be low 40s.
Given the field and the weather, I say no chance.
Like the previous poster mentioned though, great race for a great cause and should be a lot of fun.
Is this on SLUH's track? The reason I ask is because it used to have some crazy turns on it (i.e. not gradual!). Not sure if they've updated it.
i would like to see it happen, and blake and jordan both appear to be fit, but it is still pretty early in the season. i wouldn't bet on them doing it. however, the race is for a great cause and i'm glad to see such a great field race here in missouri. having raced both blake and jordan in my career, i will be anxious to see how they both do.

I believe it's on their NEW track, which is still at least 6 years old. It's around a soccer field and I think is a single radius.
If you go to Mapquest's aerial image you can see a construction site on the spot, and then at Google Maps you can see the completed complex.
MO, St.Louis 3:56.7 m Dyrol Burleson 22 Jun 63
Another indoor mark:
Columbia, MO (i) 3:55.4 m Niall O'Shaughnessy 28 Jan 77
RESULTS?!?!??!
winning time was 4:02
any more info, who won etc.
Neville Miller won in 4:07. Tommy Schmitz was second in 4:08 and Fife was 3rd in 4:08. Very cold and windy night. It was very special to have Bridgette there with her friends and family. Ben Rosario, Big River Running Co. and the SLU track team did an amazing job. Bridgette is an amazing person with a huge heart. We appreciate everyone who came out in support!
Invite Teg next year (non-Oly year) and he can bring a few of his friends!!!
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
