Well I'm not that guy, but I did post in this thread, and I do agree that ratting out a guy for selling a race number is one of the most pathetic displays of douche baggery I have ever seen. Really, this whole thread has really shaken my faith in humanity.
Anyone out there want to go report some some jaywalkers to the proper athorities? How about we sit in the bulk candy section of the local supermarket and call security if we see someone sampling from the jelly bean bin?
Personally I think it is a friend of the ebay poster throwing everyone off because then the focus is now on the retard that doesn't understand sarcasm. The two posts by "check that.." have to be the stupidest things ever!!! I can understand missing it once, but then to come back and respond again!!!! WOW, CLASSIC!!

Check that.... wrote:Oh yeah, and by the way...You got beat by a girl?!? You see, I don't find it sad that you go beat by a girl, she's good and girls beat guys all the time...but what makes it sad is you are calling for the first place title of the men's overall WHEN a GIRL beat you!! What makes it even more sad is you are 46 years old. Grow up a little and get over yourself.
LOL(oops). I hope you are one of my friends playing along, or surely you are one of the dumbest people in LR history. Either way...you need help.
If you really want a little more insight on all of this, do a search for Mike Aldrink on marathonguide.com for 2007 and 2008. He used to live in Bradenton, FL, but moved to NC (and apparently to OH from there since). My understanding was that he had aspirations to qualify for the OT marathon. Look how many 2:30ish marathons he ran in 2007 alone - whatever your opinion of all of this stuff about selling his Boston bib, you have to give him credit for such a number of marathons in that range in such a short period. I imagine that his body is paying him back for all of the marathons in 2007 now.
Bad news guys, I may not be running Boston this year. With Mike Aldrink's pending disqualification in Charlotte a mere formality, I took the liberty of calling the BAA and demanding that a man of my stature be afforded some kind of monetary compensation. After some heated negotiations it appears that we could not come to an agreement. My last statement to them was:"Look, I was 42nd 40-49 last year. If you're willing to let me walk and hope #43 or #44 steps up, then so be it." I feel like I really told them, but for some reason no one will return my calls and my name is no longer listed as an entrant. Hah! Stupid race, who needs it anyway.
I'm pretty certain every marathon has this "non-transferable" rule. I'm also pretty certain the rule is broken in each and every one of those marathons.
Someone has payed to run a race. Someone else can't get in because they missed the registration deadline. I really don't see a problem with that someone else running the race in the first person's place.

With all due respect... I am pretty sure that the BAA have taken that into consideration... and decided they didn't care. At the end of the day it is their race.

How do you know HE ran all the marathons? If he's selling his Boston bib, he very well may have sold others to runners who ran well in his stead. I'm not accusing, I'm just saying..."
Yep, you're right - that's a very good point.
Now it's at $225.

being bid up by a zero feedback member...
This is good stuff!!!
But why hate on the seller?
Real runners would hate on the buyer!

I would guess the non-transferable rule has much to do with the waiver/indemnification clauses we all agree to when registering on the internet and/or or signing a hard copy if we apply by mail. That's not transferable to a third party, so the number isn't either? Insurance purposes it seems (experts out there... help!). Anyway, it's all fun and games until a bunch of qualifiers decide to make money off their numbers, and we all end up with a bunch of non-qualifiers in the first corral.

i think the bigger "crime" is when these larger races charge fairly large amounts of money ($165 for nyc this year), do not allow transfers and you pay this amount 6 months away from the actual race. if you have injuries or things that come up, you eat the cost. thousands of people don't end up racing that paid an entry fee. why not set up a waiting list for those than want in a race and allow numbers to be transferred when possible? you could certainly satisfy a lot more of your "customers". until numbers are transferable, i can't find fault in those trying to make back some of the cost of their entry by selling it.
