Toni Reavis in the Runnerville Weekly podcast (most knowledgeable running podcast on the web): http://runnerville.com/2008/03/25/runnerville-weekly-10/ said that Alan Webb will be running the Carlsbad 5k on April 6th At the very least he'll be after Marc Davis American 5k record on the roads 13:24. To win he'll likely have to run faster (although last year's winner was only 13:28, in 2006 it was 13:15 and in 2005 13:00). |

Nice! |

This is a very interesting development. Marc Davis' road record is pretty wicked, but within Webb's reach if he is fit. |

I predict another bout of food poisoning mysteriously striking around the 2 mile mark. |

I can't believe that Webb is starting this trend over again of running odd distances so early. He has done this before, and when the major championships start he runs like shit. My philosophy is that you only have so many races left in your legs so run them sparingly. Lagat or any of the top milers in the world for that matter, are racing this early. |

You are over thinking it.
Lagat already has more races in this year then Webb. |

"Always?" I don't think he's been around long enough to establish a pattern. It's good that he stayed off of the boards this winter. Hopefully, this means that he'll be able to peak later than he did last year. Early season over-distance racing is a pretty accepted practice for middle distance guys. I think it makes a lot of sense. |

He's not going to break 13:35 |

he'll break 13:35 IF and that's a big IF he finishes the race |
| that a fact? |

Be sure to bump this after he runs 13:21! |

Who else is in the line up? If FAM is running he'll win. hahahaa, I actually cant back that up cause I havent heard anything from FAM in a while, although he is pretty damn good. But seriously, who else is running? |

I'm sure Alan will pull up fine by the time the trials come round. He should be able to run between 13:20 to 13:25 on that course. the elite field has not yet been announced, how do you know webb wont be running against top echelon runners, many great runners from kenya and ethiopia have run the carlsbad 5k, i believe the world 5k record for men and women were set at carlsbad. |

my wild guess, Haron Lagat, sammy kipketer , shadrack kosgei, Richard kiplagat, Beyi Ethiopia, aish, moses kigen, plus 3-4 more.It will be hard for him to win and i dont think Hesch will handle this deep field, no chance for him at all . Good Luck Webb. |
