With indoor just over and outdoor about to start who are the favorites.
The mile and the 5k for men were awesome races should make for the good times outdoors.
im gonna say
800 - obrien
1500 - kosgei
steeple - kosgei
5k - kaul
10 - sigl

and on the women's side:
800- toss up between taddy and her teamate scott both from UWP
1500- taddy UWP
steeple- Dobyns LUTHER
5k- Jordahl UWRF
10k- Adams KEENE ST.
1500/steeple is a suicide combo. Look at the schedule at a championship meet.
That's 1 race a day. One of those races will be a 1500 trial which I think Kosgei will be able to cruise. While I don't beleive that it is an easy thing to do it is certainly not impossible especially for an athlete like Kosgei.

Pretty unexciting picks, but I'd have to agree. I think we'll see some more really close battles between kaul and sigl.
Dobyns isn't running outdoors. So I doubt she'll be running at nationals.
the real question is what events are kosgei going to run,
i am pretty sure everyone here would agree he has no trouble qualifying in anything from 800-10k (steeple in there obviously)
what about zerzan, the winner of XC nationals...don't you think she has a shot to win whatever she does?
I predict the eighth and ninth all-American certificates for Hany.
i still pick adams over zerzan. zerzan looks like she is a pound away from being blown by the wind. adams is tough and ready to roll.

What would you run? Which event(s) on the track are the most prestigious to win at Nationals?
Who are the potential upsets of the outdoor season?
Dave Sorensen of Tufts ftw in the Steeple
I would guess Kosgei goes for the 1500/steeple double. 1 race per day- very do-able.
I'll admit I don't know anything about Sorensen, but anybody who picks anyone but Kosgie to win steeple (assuming he's not sick/injured) should seriously reconsider. He ran 8:55 in his first season steepling, and I believe he'll be capable of a sub-4 mile by May. He was runner-up at XC nats and 800/Mile champ indoors.
Are you kidding about sorenson, He is a great runner, and came on big this indoor season, but unless your talking kosgie, the battle in the steeple is for second, which dave very well could get...
But that is exactly the point...
The question asked who would be potential upset.
Whoever said Dave Sorensen would win may not be saying the Sorensen is better then Kosgei. But what he might be saying is that Sorensen is good enough, that on an off day or an injury to Kosgei, can take the win.
Sure, Kosgei is the favorite, but there a number of runners who could take him down if he has an off day or bad training leading up to the race.
Kosgei is close to breaking the four minute mile, but even Paul Zdroik nearly edged him out in the mile.
All that to day, Kosgei is by far the favorite to win nearly any event he runs, expecially the Steeple - but there are a number of runners fully capable of an upset.
gotta think kosgei will try an insane triple... 1500, steeple, 5k? or steeple, 5k, 10k? other contenders are sigl, wager, macpherson in the 1500 or 5k, think zdroik woud move up to 5k?
on the women's side: i would bet zerzan in the 5k and adams in the 10k. what about montgomery, wizawatty and alex krieg from xc? where'd geneseo and plattsburgh go after xc? krieg did well in the 5k indoors, but i think she could move up. do jordahl or esther erb do steeple?
I'd have to agree that Zdroik is the largest challenge to Kosgei in the 1500, if Zdroik runs the steeple I think he could also challenge Kosgei as well, although I've never seen him do anything in the steeple just heard rumors of him toying with it. Either way Zdroik has the balls and mustache to go after it.
