Doing a little looking around on marathonguide.com last night. I came across a guy at 50-51 during the Fall of 2000 that ran 6 marathons between the dates of 10-01 & 11-19-00 at an average of 2:55:31 over the 7 weeks;1day.

I'm impressed with Columbus, the others could have been saved for one really good time. To each his own I guess.

that Columbia, MO time is the most impressive because that is a really hilly, difficult course. The fact that he ran a marathon the day before in Mississppi just blows my mind.

If memory serves, there is a lot of jealousy/animosity towards Engle and his results. The great thing about our sport is the objectivity of the numbers. I too wonder what if he approached things differently; could run low-2:20? But it doesn't upset me that he chooses to run quantity over quality (although 'quality' is a subjective term. I would love to run 2:31 just once, let alone adding a 2:41 the next day).
chuck is how old? the guy from the original post, Thomas Powers was 51 years old at the time of that string, big difference imho

i doubt he is cherry picking, just seems to run every marathon in sight.
i see he won the texas marathon on january 1st so i guess that may have been an early world leader.
he ran the 3 biggest marathons in the usa, boston, chicago and new york, how is that cherry picking?
