McDougal running for Hansons would be like the Heisman winner going to play for a team in the CFL. No offense to Hansons...but they ain't the team for national champions.

Without question, the best running camp for marathoning is at Mammoth with Meb, Deena, and Hall. That camp has Olympic medals to prove it. Hansons, at best, have grabbed a 4th and 3rd at the last two US trials.

You go where you can develop the best. If the Mammoth lake team has a training strategy different than what works for McDougal he would struggle. If Hanson's strategy matches his own, he could do amazing things there. Running is very different than your football analogy, in football you list two different leagues. All the pros race each other in running, there are no different leagues.

I don't agree.

Sell beating Meb was a result of a better planning both in the year prior to the trials and on race day.

Briney and Verran finishing 4th and 5th in 2004 falls into that same category.

I think that if Hansons land a blue chipper, we can expect 2:06-2:08 with regularity.

Team Mammoth had 2 returning Olympians (Meb and Browne) that could not make the team 4 years later. That is not very good development.

Ryan Hall looks fantastic and Team Mammoth deserves 100% credit for all of his success thus far. It will however, take 4 years or so before we are able to judge how well he has done in terms of development.

Just like he bombed this year at NCAA XC championships.

He should stay with Jimmerson who seems to be doing a great job.

Everyone thought he made a poor decision by not going to Colorado, Wisconsin, or Stanford. It turned out to be a very good decision. McDougal is his own man. He doesn't need a big name coach. He just needs to feel comfortable.

mcdougal ran a 3:57 last year and rupp has yet to dip under 4:00. rupp's coach(es) just think he could use some more speed development and they're going to work on his speed now before they switch gears and get hiim running strong for the 10k, that way the speed will be there come summer. it's kind of similar to what marathoners do, where they work on developing speed and power at the beginning of their training and then move on to the training that will develop their aerobic and endurance and strength and anerobic system to get it where they want it before the important races. i think that's the idea, but i guess i could be wrong.
mcdougal doesn't really need to prove that he can develop the speed because he's done it in the past, unlike rupp. running different things for indoors is all about just preparing and evaluating where the body and mind are at. teg only ran 1 indoor race. it's good to have a time trial or race every 6-10 weeks to break up the monotony of training and see how the physical development is progressing. i think it would be weird if an athlete like them didn't do anything indoors on the track to test out the leg turnover and whatnot.

Remember when all of the ignorant jackasses picked him to make the marathon team. I always think back to that ignorance when reading this board.

Bad analogy- Doug Flutie and Andre Ware both played in the CFL. Ware couldn't even make there, but then he was back-up to Flutie...

guys...I think he ran 7:54 b/c he had 2 goals:
a)win the race to score points for his team
b)qualify automatically for nationals, which he missed by around a second when he ran his first 3k

I don't think he wanted to waste energy trying to run faster. He was the class of the field, so he just tried to make it to nationals.

You people are very presumptuous. None of you know McDougal well. If you did, you wouldn't be talking about him here. But keep wasting your time predicting who college kids will run for post collegiately and what events they should run. Tell the NCAA champ how to race. The kid has run fast, won a championship, and run for the World team for U.S.A. But all of you posters could tell him a thing or two about running, he must not have that down pat yet.

I would love to see this message board shut down.

some people who post on here know a lot more about running, training, and winning races than mcdougal does. did you mean have this particular thread shut down or the whole letsrun message board system?

Chelenga ran 13:53 2 weeks ago at virginia tech. He has to complete an entire year of residency and you will definitely find him come cross season. He will be ready to roll, thats for sure!

Some people who post here know more about training and racing than McDougal? How many of you posters have formulated your own training program since high school and run 3:57 and 13:20 and won the NCAA cross? How many people have had a runner the caliber of Galen Rupp on their hip with 3k to go in the NCAA's and had the ability along with the poise, intelligence, and guts to defeat him in one of the most high pressure situations any runner could ever encounter? Those of you who have, please step up and let us know who you are so we can spend the next few years ripping every thing that doesn't go perfectly with your running.
