Well, after watching Butzler at the WIAC conference meet, I don't know that he can be considered one of the favorites for the mile at nationals. He just does not seem to have whatever it was (fitness, mentality, confidence, etc) that he had last year. It looked like he was running for third. Sigl and Zdroik took it out, and nobody responded at any point during the race. |

Unless guys ahead of him opt out or he runs faster, Butzler's not even in right now. |

He's 14th on the list. I'm guessing they will take 12 this year. Zdroik and Sigl wont do it, so thats two..Also do we think wager will do it since he's in the 800 and DMR? I would think 800s would take less out of his legs for the DMR....Also with 2 4:10 milers on keene state's DMR, they could have a tough team, although they would need to run faster this weekend if their plan is to run that at Nats |

Actually, if you're planning on running the DMR, the mile is a much better choice than the 800. There's only about 15 minutes between the 800 prelimbs and the DMR. |

I just watched the DMR at New England's on Flotrack. . . considering their 800 guy fell hard, costing them 4-5 seconds, and one of their 4:10 guys went 4:15 on the anchor leg, Keene has, on a paper, anyway, a 9:56-9:57 team. Question is, is the DIII DMR so deep this year that 9:56 just won't cut it anymore? |
| falling sucks |

|
I had their 800 guy at 1:59 with a very hard fall and their anchor clearly didn't go after it. Looked like he just eased in. I wouldn't be surprised to see them run low 9:50's this weekend if they choose to run it again. My .02 |

They would have taken Williams to the line in that race. Sucks that had to happen, good showing from the Northeast. Keene will bounce back! Nobody even mentioned Trinity's 7:39 in the 4x800 next day and Keene went 7:41 with two freshmen, after the milers went 4:10, I would say they are ready. |

I had Keene's anchor at about 60, 2:03, 3:08, 4:15- about 33/34 last lap? My jaw dropped lower and lower watching Trinity's slow heat romp. Disgusting! |

Kelleher went after Chaffee very hard but could not make up the gap that was created after the fall and ended up paying for it over the last few laps as he slowly dropped. For a moment it looked like he was going to make a race of it but there was just too much ground to make up. I had Chaffee at 4:07. One would think Trinity would be good but they just dont have that stud anchor that can hang with guys like Kelleher/Chaffee and all the guys on the mid-west teams. I would imagine that Keene goes after it at ECAC since it looks like both their milers will get in with their current times. |

I think Butzler will be good to go. He's a tough, talented, runner and when it comes time to throw down he will be able to stick his face in it. That is as long as he makes it into the meet. Which I don't believe will be a problem since he's already qualified in the DMR and wouldn't be another participant to enter. |

Hey guys, Just wanted to let you guys know what we've been up to on the blog recently in case you haven't been there in awhile. Since cross country, we've done interviews with Will Leer, Paul Zdroik, and Peter Kosgei, and will post an interview with Jimmie O'Brien later in the day. We've also put up a number of features, including sub-4 DIII runners, links to all the conference results, and a comparison between the conversion times for banked tracks between the three divisions. We'd love to hear feedback, so let us know what you'd like to see on the blog, and who you'd like to see future interviews with (we do have interviews planned with sprinters/jumpers for the future). Thanks, Trackshark DIII Blog Webmasters |

they can only take him in the open mile if they take everyone in front of him on the list as well. the committee is not allowed to skip over any athletes to get to another that is already qualified in another event. most likely he'll have to run a faster time this weekend if he wants to be in the open mile |

Yeah I am thinking that Zdroik and Sigl will most likely not run it making Butzler around 12-13th. In that type of scenario, along with nobody else running fast this weekend which I don't beleive anyone will, Butzler will be allowed into the meet. |
