Perhaps Cantwell shouldn't have ordered a diamond studded shot made of pure gold then.
1000? What?

the way I see it is Hoffa is kindof a D-bag for not bringing the shot, but cantwell way overreacted.
Thanks for that info. This little dustup has exposed me to a whole new world of crazy... $1,000 shot puts!?
I am amazed that there are now 64 posts about a field event that is not the women's pole vault
What ever. $1000 or $10,000 you can't tell me he doesn't have one. Besides, even if he doesn't he should.
Compare it to a runner offering you his size 8.5 spikes at a meet when you are a size 11. Cantwell throws a different sized shot that Hoffa.
would webb expect lagat to bring him spikes, in his size, to a meet? webb wears 11, lagat 10. lagat has a pair of 11's. should he bring them for webb? oh yeah, the meet is a national championship.
To me...albeit cutting it close...If I had a pro-contract I wouldn't leave it to the 'weather's' discretion whether or not I recieved my shot on time. It's winter in the US and the meet was in Boston...what the hell does one expect?
'Pro-Athlete' shouldn't mean 'incompetent athlete'
I understand the US Champs may not be the biggest prize in 2008...but why put oneself at a disadvantage?
Most of you don't get it. First, the shot put they are using is made with tungsten. Very expensive. Also, the shell is made especially for that shot put, also expensive. Shots for throwers at that level are not $80. That would be like one of your distance runners going and buying shoes at Walmart...
Those shots take time to make and this one got held up in customs from Canada and did not make the meet. That is clear from what has been reported in the news. I am sure that Cantwell used the 128 that Hoffa had before, why would he have asked for it? So that being said, they have helped each other out in the past....in some respect or another.
You haters are quick to create a villian without either understanding the dyanmics of the personalities here or clearly understanding the event. I guess you have to tear your shirt off for the crowd or run around with a turkey leg to get respect....
