The UK has a very good rankings system. Here is last years' V40 rankings; fiddle with the URLs to see any event or age group...
http://www.thepowerof10.info/rankings/rankinglist.aspx?event=400&agegroup=V40&sex=M&year=2009Since you yanks like pumping iron, are pretty good at 400 and have 5x the population, I'll take a wild guess you have 5x as many people in any given time range...
Thank you Captainrobbo!!!
This was an interesting and informative thread until some trolls started infesting it around pg 5 and 6.
Hopefully it won't scare away the serious posters.
So who might that be you? It's only interesting and informative, if you are trying to run fast. Not just looking, and not talk about how to run faster.
Hey guys, I need help with this. I ran a 1:27/600 today, could I run a 2:00/800 this year?
Maybe a 1:58/800 meter, if you have good speed!! Make sure you run some 1000's this summer. Run 3 x 1000's, and 6 x 150's at race pace. Good luck this summer.
I ran my best my 800 in 2:09 today. How can I develop my 400 speed this summer? Thank you!
nice to bump into this thread with some data available.
So over the weekend i raced a 5k on track at a masters meet and did 18:12. After 12 hours i did an 800 and ran 2:19.9
I had still lots of energy at the end but at 46 the emphasis is on Health and Enjoyment and running for fitness.
I should be able to break 60 for the quarter but havent tried yet.
Any key workouts recommended to approach 2:10?
Hey try adding more speed work during the week. This is what I do on speed day. I like running workouts like: 6 x 150's, 5 x 60's, 4 x30's at 200 meters speed.

If it's so easy, then why are you so slow as hell? Guys your age run 2:10 or faster!!!
Sorry, I shoulda realized as this is a Letsrun forum I'm not allowed to post anything unless I'm a former collegiate star who just kept running through his 20s and 30s and hit age 40 in peak physical condition. My bad.
So what we love running and we are faster. Most guys your age are under 18:05.

If you are only running 2:19 I'd be surprised if you can just break 60 tomorrow. In fact I bet you'd die horribly around 250m without some relevant training.
Why don't you go to the track, run a timed 100 (running start) and a 400, and then report back? Then you'd have some data to go on at the other end of the spectrum.
How many of you old guys on here run Nationals. I am thank about it, but I need more training.
If I run a 59> 400, can I run 2:03 in the 800 meters ? If not what workouts can I do to meet my goal? Thank you!!
Most master runners, will only run it in 2:12 - 15
I train with Marathon runners that are faster then most on here.

Maybe, but we are not 22 years okd!!
Masters may have long enough memories to appreciate a great thread on eightlane right now, with lot of info on Cram and his numerous sub-1:50 teammates...

Boston masters track club ran ran 8:14 4x800 at tufts this weekend. Won the meet averaging 2:03 per leg. Not too shabby for old guys.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
