has anyone ever heard of Abubaker Kaki before this race? Results say he was born in 1989 - that makes him what- 18/19? And no, I don't always believe what the results say besides the time(and I only believe the times 99.999% of the time). |

Most people who follow the sport have heard of 800m runners who run under 1:44. |

Yeah. I have heard of runners who run under 1:44 for 800m. It isn't that uncommon on a year-to-year basis. Thanks for adding your smartass comment with no real substance, because that's what keeps this website alive. Why don't you go buy some Linguica sausage and stick it up your rectum. P.S. How many 18 year olds have you heard of running under 1:44 for 800m? And what percentage of sub-1:44 800m runners do they make up in history? Yeah, go back to the linguica, scrooge mc800m-runner-know-it-all-douche. |

So your answer is that you aren't aware of the guys who've run under 1:44. Kaki had the 4th fastest time in the world over 800m last year . It's not the fault of the posters on this cesspool of a board that you're ignorant enough to post about a guy that far up the list. Learn more. Post less. |

Wow. 4th on the 800m list in the world in 2007. He made it 6th in his heat in the 2007 world championships. I'm sorry I didn't recognize someone who was eliminated in the first round of heats at the world champs, especially someone who had made it there for only the first time. I'm sorry I told you to go find some linguica. Instead, I should've told you to go find Kaki's long schlong, as you probably perceive it, and go rest it on your shoulder. You know how long Daniel K. Komen has been running top times in the 1500m in the world and has NOT YET MADE IT TO A FINAL??? Why don't you try and lecture me when he gets 4th IN THE FINAL by .03 seconds, a la Tegenkamp, and then ostracize me for not knowing who he is. 1:43.90 is extremely remarkable as an 18 year old, and I am soooo sorry for not recognizing that when really, he wasn't close to being a medal threat because that one race was when he peaked(and it was in late september) and he wouldn't be close to being able to finish with the likes of Bungie, etc. when before then, his time was a run-of-the-mill ncaa time. Webb ran 3:50 3 years ago and could've potentially been a medal threat. Was he? No. Did he have the experience? No. Does Kaki? No. Will he in the future? Maybe. Don't talk to me like it's a must that I should know who he is, because even though he's ran 1:43.9 in LATE SEPTEMBER, long after the world trials, what does that mean? Ask yourself that. Yeah, he could be good in years to come, and if you want to get on his bandwagon far in advance so years from now you can tell people to kiss it because they didn't recognize his potential now, well, that just sounds egotistical and like you want some kind of hidden attention, and I don't have much respect for that. I also don't think your initial comment was very respectful. As a matter of fact, it was somewhat disrespectful and condescending. I was just trying to give some props to a young runner who had never really been recognized and had just got the junior world record in a rather fast time for the time of season, and my information sources of track and field are definitely not limited to letsrun.com. I treat letsrun like a tabloid of track and field and when I want to find the supposed hidden dirt and questionable facts on athletes and times, although Canova and othe reputable, reliable sources have posted on here, and I think Canova and others' words are rather reliable. Just stay off this website. Go bug someone who cares about you. |

Since you merely asked who had heard of him I'm not sure where what his potential, what finals he had made or how he ties in to either Daniel Komen. That's for your rather....um....busy....mind to sort out but the fact remains that you asked if anyone had ever heard of the guy with the 4th fastest time in the world over 800m on a site that's dedicated to competition basically from the 800m and up. Once your....um....busy....mind has a few minutes to digest that fact you may come to the realization that you made a foolish post and need to read more and post less. |

Not that you would EVER post anything not of prime substance and no element of "smartass". Check post 4 in the below thread. http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?board=1&id=2336017&thread=2334746 |

Judge and Jury, you're an idiot. While you may find it satisfying to sit in your mother's basement and search fact-based sites to find out the background on runners, letsrun can also be useful to find out the facts as well as often getting the back story as well. Why is the approach of the OP so awful? He gets his question answered, gives the runner some recognition, and generates discussion of the achievement among people who are likely to appreciate the effort. |

it's irrelvant if the guy is 18y or 118y - he still put 1'43.90 on the clock ! on top of that, he won the all-africa games, beating muladazi, whom many woud consider within the top 3 of 800m runners of past few years : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athletics_at_the_2007_All-Africa_Games as for potential : note his pb is already quicker than ramzi the '05 wc ( 1'44.05 ) & only 0.01s slower than yego the current wc the kid is on for some monstrous times this year & has already set his sights on sammy's 1'42.28 ar according to an interview of note, he's going for kip's 2'14.77wr today in ghent |

http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/letter=K/athcode=208553/index.html his progression has been awesome : ~ 2.7s between '05/'06 & then 1.9s between '06/'07 not that progression means a lot, but at his young age it may be more feasible - just a further 0.91s improvement this year gets him into < 1'43 territory |

Just want to thank you guys for further pointing out what an ignorant tool the OP is for even asking the question. |
| Yeah |
| ||
|
Yeah, uh... I'm not buying it J&J. I think I had seen the name before this race, but I didn't know anything about this guy either. I followed the Euro circuit up through WC, didn't really follow much past there and only heard mention of his 1:43 in passing. Calling someone out for not knowing a runner who is very new to the sport and has made only the smallest of impacts on the world scene is pretty stupid. There are lots of great runners out there; unless you have no life, it can get pretty difficult to keep track of them all. This kid was an unknown up until last summer and has had two notable races until just recently. That doesn't even come close to making him a household name, so I see no issue with not knowing who he is. We all bow down to your knowledge of track and field, can you go ahead and get over yourself now? |

Follow the bouncing ball tool guardian: The OP was able to find this dump. He was able to find the results of the competition in which the guy ran 2:15. Yet he posts "has anyone ever heard of Abubaker Kaki before this race?" Now...tell me....who needs to get over himself? |
