Resting an IT band will, more than likely, do nothing. Massage and the continuing of blood flow (through running) is a more productive measure in treating the injury. Most runners with an IT band injury that take off for a few weeks will return with the same injury.[/quote]
Wow are you serious? Resting an IT band injury will allow the band to not become inflammed by preventing the band from rubbing on the lateral epicondyle. Yes massaging and stretching and increasing the bloodflow help, but if you have ever tried to run through IT band syndrome, or if you had even a clue to what it was, you would know that running on it is doing more harm than good. I hope this was sarcasm and not just pure ignorance.
They may return with the same injury but its because they either came back too soon, and didnt let it heal or came back and stepped right in where they left off.
Believe im going through this right now, i havent been running for 2 weeks, and can now finally walk up and down stairs without pain, running only irritates the tendon and causes more inflammation....
