Way back in the day Penny Hardaway was considered a great player/perennial all-star and helped his team to the Finals. Then Kobe came on to the scene and helped his team win three championships then D Wade was the next big thing to help his team to win an NBA Finals. What people fail to see is that Shaq was the common denominator in all three of those players success and the sole reason why those 3 players won or made it to the NBA Finals to begin with. Kobe is a great scorer but does not get his teammates involved the way Lebron or Steve Nash does. Kobe and Jordan should not be even mentioned in the same sentence unless that sentence is: Kobe is not nor ever will be as good as Jordan was. Jordan had Luc Longley as his Center for crying out loud.

Kudos to an erudite point wow... You don't need a strong center, but it sure helps, and Miami on a losing streak now, seems the only difference is an aging Shaq. Anyway, it's seems Kobe still does hold the mantle with his three rings, but Lebron sure does look strong. I actually think both players are doing a good job with the personnel they have, maybe a team edge to Lebron, but Kobe can't be blamed for not winning another ring yet, they don't seem to have the players for that--it generally takes at least 2 all-star players.

I just love the presence of the medium-range jump shot by Lebron. Absolutely untouchable--Hamilton is leading Detroit in scoring with it--and if Lebron keeps it up, he will be in practice what he already is in name, King.

Yea and his wins plumetted. Its not just about stats. Its winning and stats and I would agree that because Kobe won those rings when he wasnt even close to being the best player on the team he isnt comparable to LeBron now. Shaq back then was unstoppable. It was Shaq=MJ and Kobe=Scottie Pippen. Now Kobe shoots all the time scores a lot of points and cant get out of the first round of the playoffs while lebron basically averages a triple double and led an otherwise mediocre team to the NBA finals.

Uh, Lebron plays in the east. It's like playing in the NFC, Celtics not withstanding.

hmmm, let's see. championships: kobe 3, lebron 0.

it is true that kobe, in a comparison to michael jordan not lebron, will ultimately be judged on his ability to bring another championship to la with a different supporting cast, and i think he will. but he is the best player in the league and the dominant player of his generation. youngest player to 20,000 points (faster than mj and wilt), how many all-star game mvps??, three championships... revisit this thread in ten years, not two games against each other, and we'll see how they stack up. much harder to take a team to the championship in the west than the watered down east, especially with detroit over the hill about two years ago.
