Forgive me for being the first to state the obvious. You need to find just 0.33 seconds and you're doing speedwork 5 days per week. Be bold and try "rest"! Now you're in the last 2-3 weeks. Be brave and cut right back. You've done all the race-pace rehearsal you need. Do nothing but easy running this week, maybe GENTLE strides on Thursday (preferably with no watch), easy run and stretch on Friday. What matters now is: 8 hours sleep a night; make sure you don't overeat as you taper (but don't diet either); swim, stretch, mobilise; if budget stretches that far, act like a pro and get a good massage to make sure there are no kinks in the muscles; bottle that extra mental energy and save it for Saturday. If it doesn't happen this week and you're racing 1500 each Saturday, think about a Monday tempo or 3k/5k-pace session to give you a bit more aerobic capacity, and a speed session on Wednesday (maybe involving pace-changes, drilling yourself to pick up on the last lap, and focusing on good form rather than time), and 2 full easy days before each race. You do NOT need more 1200s at race pace. Good luck! |

The guy is 0.33 of a second outside and you're saying he's got no chance? Do it this weekend. Good luck! |

Hey Eddy... I've been avoiding chiming in too much. All the native letsrun.com bozos who hate this thread might start going crazy. Training and racing have been going well. I had a good indoor season where I was able to race 1-1K and 5 Indoor mile races. I've been concentrating on strength and building aerobic capacity rather than speed. Last year I did a lot of track work trying to get fast but had trouble in the latter stages of the 1500 because I had not much of an aerobic base. I've logged a lot more miles. I post all my races on mastersrankings.com We're just starting to do more 1500m race specific workouts. So I anticipate my times to be dropping. Thanks for posting your workouts. Your doing great! |

Don't think about workouts, Don't think about what you have done, Don't think about your splits, Don't Think. Just go out there and make yourself run the hardest you have ever run before....and you can do it. I KNOW YOU CAN! Just about everyone on here knows you can. but the only person who has to know is you! when your in the race remember "My goal of sub 4:00 1500-I will not stop until I reach my goal." |

This must feel kind of like the summer of '69 when they were waiting for Apollo 11 to launch. All of the work has been done. All that's left is the positive result. Good luck, my man! |

eddy, when you were doing the mile repeats or tempos, in addition to the schedule you posted, how many and at what rate were you doing them? good luck this weekend. do it up! |

dude WTF he ran 10:20 this season? Damn, did you fall down and run backwards for a lap or what? lol |
| not this year |

|
I did not say he has no chance. I said I think he just had his best race of the year. When you make dramatic improvements over just a few weeks you eventually peak and trying to find that extra 0.33 can be very tough. How many times did amazing athletes run 4:00 and 4:01 in the mile before Bannister broke 4? Dozens? Maybe hundreds? I want Eddy to do it but I'm just not seeing it. |

dude WTF he ran 10:20 this season? Damn, did you fall down and run backwards for a lap or what? lol[/quote] Something like that... Worst. Feeling. Ever. F racing @ altitude. Honestly, it was the worst experience of my life. Thanks for bringing back the terrible memories, btw. |
| If I dont break 4 sat oh well! |

Hey eddy Im running this sat at LSU I have never broken 4 come real close but when I do you can share the experience with me. I dont really care about the 1500 I run 10k 5k most often. I will stop after this saturday trying to break 4 as it will be the last time I ever run 1500 in college. My PB from last year is 4 03. Good luck with your dream! |

It's not such a bad way to bring down your 1500 time. I did London in my first year in college, then broke 4:00 for the first time just two weeks later. - Andy |

Oh crap! Is the race over? I cannot find live results to the meet. The website says final results will be posted to the APU main T&F site. I'm guessing that means afterward? Somebody report! |
