Yeah, I live right here in New Haven. Crazy. If you ever feel like running when you're down here drop me a line on flotrack. Yeah, the hamstring is annoying. I keep pulling it here and there, partly because I'm old, partly because I'm lazy about stretching.

Boingo... question for you... when you took charge after 800m your stride and everything looked really good. Wondered what happened when the throw down was on during the last 200m? Did you tie up from oxy-debt at that point or were you moving at about the same pace? What was going on in that you weren't able to tag with BEER STEAK and the other guy? Thanks man... awesome race.

Hey Ron,

I just locked up really badly. That happens a lot to me in the last 100-150m of races - I should probably look into addressing it some way through training. (I would say that it's normal to tie up at the end, but not for a 18 second last 100m).

If the 3rd 400m was 62, that might have toasted me a little bit. They probably kept moving at about the same pace -
3:11 + 46 = 3:57
and 46 is right around 62 pace.

Beerstreak and Boingo, congrats to the both of you on an amazing race. Damn 62 3rd 400 hahaha great race!!

357....huge props

I could not keep up with the training. I felt thrashed every day on the track, and I could not come close to some of the times that I was hitting earlier in the season...this is with extra recovery days in between :( No regrets...it was fun :)

I started back up a few days ago to begin summer training. I took about 5 days off, and I am feeling much more relaxed.

Thanks for one hell of a season! Hopefully this thread stays alive over the summer and into fall xc. :)

Hey Eddylee,

Not sure I want to comb through this thread completely, but I was reading the first couple pages, and I know you've been training a lot smarter since then. My question is, what changed? Did you get a different coach, or did your current one just wise up a bit. I mean the training at the beginning of the thread is just insanely stupid, but you seem to have turned a corner, even if you haven't quite hit your sub-4 yet. What happened?

Thanks for the link, great race! Now that you hit sub 4, is there any other goals you have?

My goal is a 15:30 5k on a hilly XC course. In the 2 weeks this summer I've ran 50 and 70 miles.

Same coach. Same training methods. I just was able to control myself in practice and not race every workout. I did extra mileage on my own over the weekend and during the week to stay around 40-50mpw. That's it.

eddylee, don't feel bad. Me and another guy on my team having been talking about taking it to the next level. Why should we be satisfied with 3:59 or 3:57? Honestly that's a high school caliber time.

If we have the leg speed to run 4:00 flat then why not step up, be men, and run 80-90 miles a week? We'll try to break 15 for 5k, and then sub-4 at 1500 should be nothing. Why not shoot for 3:50?

Let us be men. Let us train like men. Let us run twice a day every day, until 6:00 pace is routine and 60 second quarters feel like butter.

4:00 flat was a great goal, and you're close, and we're all close, but now let's take it to the next level. 4:00 should merely be a stepping stone to greater things. Let's go get it.

I am amazed that this thread made it nearly SIX months without one of the self-aggrandizing fools digging it up and posting something.

They probably have their own blogs to take care of that though.

I think the ones (one?) who already broke 4:00 now have no need for the adulation and the ones who haven't know that they are so far off, that unless they have run some other time close to a 3:59 1500 equiv. that they will get more abuse.

Congratulations to BEER STEAK, you have the right idea. Sub-2:00 and sub-4:00 are fine running ... but should not be the end game if you are over age 18.

Train for a 14:59 5k indoors, then post on the sub-15:00 thread and show them how to HTFU.

Alright Eddylee, what we gonna do this coming year? Let's get the thread going again... gotta know what the steps we gonna take to get the grand master plan implemented of a sub Fo 1500m this year. I knows you ain't got no XC season, but the indoor season be brewing. You should be prime and all incubated to let the wheels turn as you approach outdoor.

All I can say is that we with you and we gonna make the same effort. Don't nobody tell you nuttin' this time. We gonna make it real.

Jonesy (jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj), Boingo, BEER STEAK, and whoever else was on board need to come back. Letsrun.com followers needs some luv these days and a purpose for their existence.

Eddy is very much alive, he is living in the next room over from me. I know his plan is to bust out a sub 4 this year, but he has been sick a lot lately. I too run and plan to hit the sub 4 pace for the 1500. We have indoor season coming up, 3 meets in Arizona, and 1 at Fresno State. Although we have no XC team, we did run a couple of XC meets as Team Lightning. Our coaches workouts are a little extreme sometime, but he is just trying to bust us into the best shape possible, he lightens up after a little while, but until indoors is over and we don't have to deal with the 7000 ft elevation then it will be crazy stuff.

Ryan Lucker PR's:

800-1:55.1
1500-4:03
3000-9:06
5k-15:52
10k-34:01
13.1- 1:27:??

I will be making a sub 4 attempt coming up shortly. I'm not sure when or where. Training has been okay, I've had some setbacks but I think I can overcome them. Again I will not stop until I reach my goal.

Eddy Lee is no longer with us. He went to that big track in the sky late last year. Quit drudging up this old thread. It is disrespectful to the late, great Eddylee
