Hang in there Eddy. Your time will come...
I wish you guys would at least pay attention to the thread before poking fun. Eddy just recently ran 4:03, is sharpening up in training, and has 3 more races this season. With the absurd expectations some people have for guys like Rupp and German, surely you can believe that Eddy can find a way to lose 3 seconds as he peaks. Anyway, I look forward to a couple months from now when this is the Eddy Lee sub-3:50 thread and everyone is asking for his advice ;)
Take a shot at your 5000m pr before the season's gone. I'm not sure that running 1500m every week is the key. You are very close and if your coach gives you a chance to recover, dropping a few days of intervals in your peak month, you'll be right there.
NY Relays was on Friday, so I couldn't make it down for it (initially thought the 10th was Saturday), but I ran a hilly 10k in Central Park in 33:51, a 28 second pr 5:30,5:30,5:23?,5:37,5:16,5:30,1:04-.2. That was also 1:57 better than I had ever run that course (last time was 2007). I was in better shape a few weeks ago, then had hamstring tightness and couldn't do much tempo or track work, so I'm pleased with this race and think sub-33 on the same course is a possibility at the end of next month. I finally figured how to solve the hamstring problem so I can begin again with some track work and tempos this week. If those go well, I might run a 5000m next week, going for sub-16, but should be ready for better track races in May.
How did you solve you hamstring problem?
I tried a couple dozen different things (different stretches, exercises--google Isaacson or some variant of that spelling and hamstring--hamstring weight machines, dynamic stretching, but what solved the hamstring problem (still needs maintenance) was very simple:
I was already doing the hamstring stretch where you lie on your back, with one knee up and pull the other leg straight back and hold for 30-40 seconds. This worked last Fall but not this time. However, I altered the exercise slightly by pulling the (right) leg back and a bit to the right of normal and the hamstring loosened immediately. A trainer would have done this immediately, because the tightness was on the inner side, the band like part starting behind the knee and that part was not stretched by pulling the leg straight back. So, for inside, pull it back and to the outside some. For outside tightness, pull it back and to the inside.
This tightness was caused directly by doing the eccentric calf raises for achilles (which also can lead to shin splints) without carefully altering directions (doing some with the foot turned outward, inward, straight).
Good meet today...
4:01.41(will post results later)
800: either high 159 or very low 200 (still waiting for results)
The race went out so smoothly. It was honest from the gun, and there were 4-6 guys in contention to win going into the last 300meters. I was sitting in the middle of the pack the entire race up until the last 300meters.
64
65(209)
65(314)
47(401)
I made a move with 300 to go and took the lead for about 150 meters. Then, an Oregon West guy made a very strong move off the turn and never looked back. He ended up running 359 :( hahahaha
800
58 first lap
159-200
I'm looking forward to hearing how every1 else performed. Good luck Jonsey on your 5k. Your tempo runs are extremely impressive.
Thanks again to all who support this thread. I hope everyone is training well and staying healthy!!! GO GET EM!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! oh man do I love running...can I get a hell yeah??!!
:D
Awesome. Hope you have some more fast races this year!
You're a pimp eddylee.
Great job Eddy Lee!
If you break 4 maybe I can repost the "where were you when you first heard the news that Eddy Lee went sub 4" thread without the evil moderators deleting it.

HELL yeah! Way to go, EL!
Sounds like you ran well and *raced* well--good job!
great job, eddy! 4:01's a very nice number. 47 is a nice close. I guess I was way off when I suggested that you could maintain your splits from the 4:03 but kick hard in 46 close.
I decided from Tuesday's lousy speed workout (5x880y (2:47,2:42,2:41,2:36,2:28), 5x80 seconds (hopefully over a quarter on each) on the bike path) that I wasn't ready for a track race yet, as I had missed virtually a month of track and tempo work from the tight hamstrings. I may have been tired from Saturday's 10k. Today I had a better workout, again on the bike path. On a half mile jog rest,
1M-5:23 (2:49/2:34), 2M-10:39 (5:31/5:08), 1M-4:56 (2:32/2:24). Slow start, felt better after awhile.
14.3 miles for the day, on pace for 100 again.
I may race on the track April 26th, but definitely the mile May 2 in Burlington, and probably NYC challenge a week later.
Great job Eddy!
What is your 5K PR?
Nice job. Anytime you run a PR is reason to celebrate. You're getting closer!
4:01!! Awesome race!! I can't believe how you have dropped your times from indoor season. A couple of months back you were in the 4:30s for the mile. Something is happening here!
After this effort, I don't know if I'm worthy to report but I'll do it anyway. LOL!!
I managed a 4:17.80 1500m and 2:08.08 800m effort yesterday.
For the 1500 my splits were around: - 67-68, 2:15-2:16, 3:25-3:26.
Staying tuned!
This thread is making me think I need to race more. Little by little he just keeps chipping away.
That third lap is killing me! Got to keep the throw-down on during the third lap!
I seriously was the first to jump on the eddylee bandwagon a few pages ago when he was 407s or 408s. great work and here is your HELL YEAH!
Nice race Ron! 417 equates to about a 436-7 mile...just around your season best from indoor.
The 3rd lap does suck a lot hahaha...What I've been doing to make sure that I don't slack off the 3rd lap is to focus on the last 600. When I ran my 403 3 weeks ago, I made a huge surge around that corner. My 3rd lap actually ended up being my second fastest overall.
May you please provide some training sessions. I'm curious to know because my season best for my first year of track in college was a 416(2yrs ago).
Just watch, eddylee is going to either
a) get injured now
b) run 4:00.00 and get injured
Hell Yeah!!
Nice race!
