Eddylee, just curious what kind of 800's you've raced recently?
Supposedly you should should be able to double your 800 time to get your 1500 time if you're well trained aerobically.

In general I think eddy's aerobic training has gone a lot better than the previous year, so I think he's got what he needs to get it done. Those ridiculous workouts are from the 2007-2008 season when the thread was started.
I feel like the 800 conversion is off by a lot. I'm not terrible aerobically and it's still significantly off - I think it would only be truly accurate if the person in question lacked decent 800 meter ability (it seems like it would maybe work for 5k-10k guys).
seasonal PRs from various years:
800m | 1500m
2:05 4:13
1:58 4:05
1:58 4:00
I've run a 1:57 this year (in January) and I probably have a few seconds I can drop off that - I doubt I will be running a 3:50 this year, though.
Any plans to run over or under distance, eddy?
(who else is racing this weekend?)
boingo, what can you run for 5k? That might give us a better idea of where you stand aerobically.
Yeah, you're right, the formula doesn't quite work. Here are some examples. I tried a few notable Americans at the end to see if maybe it would work for guys are not quite as fast. It doesn't really.
Coe 1:41.73 x 2 = 3:23.46 projected / 3:29.77 actual
Cram 1:42.88 x 2 = 3:25.76 projected / 3:29.67 actual
Webb 1:43.84 x 2 = 3:27.68 projected / 3:30.54 actual
Ovett 1:44.09 x 2 = 3:28.18 projected / 3:30.77 actual
Morcelli 1:44.79 x 2 = 3:29.58 projected / 3:27.37 actual
Ngeny 1:44.49 x 2 = 3:28.98 projected / 3:28.12 actual
Baala 1:43.15 x 2 = 3:26.30 projected / 3:28.98 actual
Ramzi 1:44.05 x 2 = 3:28.10 projected / 3:29.14 actual
Ryun 1:44.3 x 2 = 3:28.6 projected / 3:33.1 actual
Steve Holman 1:44.98 x 2 = 3:29.96 projected / 3:31.52 actual
Rob Myers 1:47.43 x 2 = 3:34.86 projected / 3:34.89 actual
Lopez Lomong 1:45.58 x 2 = 3:31.16 projected / 3:36.36 actual
Jon Rankin 1:47.01 x 2 = 3:34.02 projected / 3:35.26 actual
Haven't run a 5k in a while, so I'm not certain.
The year I ran 1:58 / 4:05 I ran 15:42 & 9:11 3k (the 3k in Dec., the 5k in April)
and this year I've run 8:58 for 3k (in Dec. again). So maybe around a 15:15 or so if I ran one right now.
I am more of a 1500m runner, obviously.
IT'S THAT TIME OF THE WEEK AGAIN!!!!!

3+second pr in the 15 :)!!!!
I don't know about breaking 4 hahaha...taking 3seconds is going to be huge...we'll see though. 4 races left for the season, but I am willing to continue on until early June.
1500:
64
66
64
49(getting better)
I was so discouraged in the race so I have no idea how I pulled this one out. I was in last place or close to it at the 800 meter mark. Around the turn with 600 to go(studid idea), I passed like 5 guys and started to pick it up. I was in 3rd with 300 to go, but I lost it in the last 100meters. Great experience.
800...heh 58 @ the 400. Last 50meters kicked my ass.
Now that's what I'm talking about!! You are rewarding our confidence in you. A hard 46 close and you're right there.
Congrats, Eddy!
Now if Ian could run 100 miles/week, my life would be completed :)
Eddy, I think this may be my first time posting in this thread. (Or maybe not--it's a big thread.) Anyway, I find your persistence inspiring, and I like how you don't just *say* what you want, you *show* your desire by having made important positive changes in your training.
A 4:00 1500 is worth, what, about 4:19 for the full mile? A *ton* of people on this board (I'm one) never came close to that.
I hope you reach your goal this year. I also hope that, whether you reach it or not, you give yourself credit for the dedication and focus that you have sustained for many months--attributes that you can apply to other things in your life, now and in the future.
Good luck, and well done!
Good job Eddy Lee.
But do you know what really gets my goat? Do you want to know what really pisses me off in this world? It's the bare fact that jonesy is sitting there pretty, thinking he's responsible for the success of Eddy Lee.
Jonesy, you ain't fooling anybody here. We're all savvy to your horn tooting antics.

I'm doing it this week. It's springbreak, so no school to worry about.
I'm going to register some numbers into perspective and then you guys tell me your take on the matter at hand:
33, 55, 35, 63, 26, 74, 45, 36, 75, 23, 78, 34, 64, 97, 56
All on a flat contiguous cedar built track on a Tuesday.
A 87.8 in the 40-40 plausible?
Congratulations Eddy. This is a big breakthrough! You will break 4 now. Here is my advice for the last few weeks; Emphasis on race pace workouts-3x600-1:36; 2x1000 2:40,plus fine tune your sprint speed-5x200 27/28.
Good luck. You can do it.
PS For the big picture, read the Renato Canova thread that has just started. That will give you a sense of needing to run longer intervals at just above and below rce pce.
I ran like crap. No excuses. 408.2x
We have three races left, and we are going to start hammering out the speed. I have not yet done any repeat 200s, and I am definitely looking forward to doing some reps faster than race pace.
Good luck to all!!! :D
Canuck, thanks for the heads up on Canova's thread. Great amount of resources in there.
EddyLee
Like you, my goal for in college was to break 4:00. Senior year I was running 4:05 consistently until championship season when I finally had a breakthrough and ran 4:02, 4:01 and 3:59. Don't let a minor setback throw you off your game. You've done the work and you deserve to reach your goal.
Opened today in the rain, hoorah. 4:07, kind of just strolled in. One of my vastly superior teammates and a college kid beat me - not a whole lot of comp. Good to just get one done, though - looking forward to racing either at Brown or Icahn next. I probably should have done the 800m considering the weather.
It's hilarious that this thread is so long. I think you'll get to your goal. Don't stop.

Nice job Eddy.
64,66,64,49 is really pretty good. It is very difficult to run perfectly even splits. Usually for that level it would be like 63,65,66,49 or so since it is so much easier to run fast before it starts to hurt. but I think that is very good, notice that your good races are the ones where you are closer to even pace?
Also, I don't think that your 3:59 is going to come from kicking in a 46 last 300. You just don't have the strength or aerobic power to run 800m pace for the last 300-400 of a 1500. I just think you need to reach a little higher level where you can be just under 64 a lap and reach the 1200 without blowing up.
I know you can't control your training but the 5 X a week intervals are what is dragging you down ... the same reason why you go 4:05, 4:03, 4:08. If you can do 2 good interval workouts a week and just base mileage in between you should feel good on racedays.
You may be able to hit a few meets in May, you do live in California where they must have a lot of meets.
also 58-62 in the 800 is pretty good. a 2 or 3 second differential at your level is ideal, but hard to reach sometimes.
Your coach sucks & you're not breaking 4 mins this year. Who does intervals 5X a week?
Oh Eddy. Why? Why do you do this to me week after week, year after year? I think we should all collectively agree to pretend like Eddy Lee went sub 4:00. You could be buying some pork linens at the local Green Bagger and the butcher would be like "it's good that Eddy Lee went sub 4:00" and you would be like "yes, yes it is very good that Eddy Lee went sub 4:00". If everyone pretended for long enough we would forget that we were pretending and we would actually believe that Eddy Lee went sub 4:00. Future generations would never know the truth. Thousands of years from now hot moms around the world will be teaching their children about "Eddy Lee The Great" who never stopped no matter how unreasonable the goal.
