Hey Sair,
Don't underestimate the power of orthotics or inserts. I had a fairly persistent, though low-grade, case of plantar fasciitis from about January 2008 to July 2008. Within maybe 3 weeks of using the (admittedly lamely named) superfeet inserts it has vanished and never reappeared.
My weekend race was not ideal but encouraging nonetheless. I ended up in the first heat of the mile which kind of put me in dead man's land from the getgo...split 64 with the 4:12 types and then they took off, leaving me by my lonesome (with the rest of the heat far behind me). Proceeded to run a 4:26. Not my best work, but I'll take it after bronchitis and a spotty month at best. First time I've been in a heat with a professional runner, too. Kind of cool. I didn't feel very taxed after the race - so I'm in decent shape, I just didn't end up using it.
My next race will likely be mid-April...which is good. I'll have plenty of time to buckle down and just grind away.
