Okay, before the dinner is ready...
I've got the top 25 times of high schoolers in 2007. Boys 800: #1 is 1:51, 25th is 1:54. 1500: 3:48 by Kenyans, the second is Japanese kid with 3:51. 25th is 3:55. In 5000, we have 5 Kenyans in top 10; first Japanese is #5 with 14:00. For Girls; there are 2 Kenyan girls in 1 & 2 with 4:18 and 4:19 in 1500; first Japanese is 4:20. Kinukawa is way ahead among Japanese girls; she ran 9:04 for 3000 behind 2 Kenyans, 15:27 for 5000 behind 1 Kenyan, 31:35 for 10. The Japanese girl behind Kinukawa in 5 is 15:57. Interestingly, high schooler (girl) placed 9th in 800 with 2:07 and 10th in 15 with 4:20. Traditinally, Japanese high school girls actually do very well in open races in middle distance and distance events.
Once again, these times are NOT all time records, just 2007.
It seems we really are somewhat stronger than they are in the middle distances. As for the 5000+, I'm not sure, particularly because of like how they focus on the upper distance while we focus more around the middle distances. In fact, the highest distance most high schoolers run is usuall 3200M/2-miles. I wonder how fast last years talented group could run for the 5K on the track after that spectatular NON 2-Mile. Centrowitz ran the 2007 best in like a low 8:4x 2-mile, can't remember exactly what it was and what it converts to for a 3200/3000.
But wow, 15:27 for a high school girl? That's blazing fast... Definetely would put those two sub 16:00 girls ahead of ours (most for now) in the longer distances.
