The Nashville Striders is the local running club. They have a lot of races and training runs.
Not that you asked, but my favorite places the run in the area are:
The Warner Parks
Shelby Bottoms Greenway
Centennial Park
be wary. it is a 10 minute pace group.
Most of the Striders are casual joggers, but there are small pockets of people that train together etc..
Once you are in Nashville you have to go run the Percy Warner Park 11 mile loop, its a great place to run. Also check out this site, it's geard to some of the more competative types.

What you need to do is go run the horse trails at Percy Warner Park. They do have an 11 mile road loop, but the horse trails are perfect. You can get in trouble for running on them occasionally, but everyone does it.
great info everyone, thanks! I'll need to find some good places to run.
so is there no competitive running group to train with?? I have been trying to search online and saw some stuff about the Nashville Racers. Is this club still around and if so whats the deal with it? (caliber of runners)
Nashville Racers don't exist any more. Not sure of any "competative" training groups in Nashville, most group runs are more social.
Hope you don't mind me asking, but how young and how fast are you?
I don't mind.
I'm 26 years old.
PRs from '05:
5k- 14:54 (ran 14:57 this past summer)
10k- 31:09 (xc)
Steeple- 9:00
Nothing too crazy, but I like to run hard so its nice to have some guys to run/workout with. So even if there's no club, a couple training partners would be cool.
There are a few competitive runners in town who run at your level. Leave a post at the tnrunning site and contact its creator, Dave Milner, if you want to get in touch with the fast guys.
Unfortunately, there aren't any competitive groups in town, just a few guys who run together from time to time.
I'm way too old and way too slow to hang with that.
With those times you can pretty much win just about any race in Nashville- very easily.
Yeah I go to school in Nashville and I have to say, Nashville is the worst city I've ever seen for running. Percy Warner is great, but you have to drive there from my campus, and unless you enjoy doing a million loops around Centennial Park, there is no place with grass at all. No bike path, no nothing. So yeah, enjoy running on cement all the time.
The local running stores, Athlete's House and Fleet Feet have "teams" and groups of people that run together, they're usually a little bit more serious/competitive, but I don't know if they'd be quite up to your level. Worth looking into though.
Contact Dave Milner. He is the owner of TN Running. http://www.tnrunning.com/contactus.html He organizes a couple of track races in the spring and at least 1 road race and coaches the best of the best HS runners in the state. He can give you contact information for potential training partners, etc.
thanks again everyone, this is some good info to work with. fortunately for me, i grew up running a lot of roads so it doesn't bother me too much...it'll probably be less crazy than running the streets of beantown. but i don't mind driving to get to some decent trails/parks.
too bad they dont have a bike path, you'd think with that river running through the city it would be a perfect place for one. oh well, maybe i'll pave one myself (ha, right!)
There is a bike path along the river. They are actually expanding it. It's actually pretty nice.
thank god, i wouldn't have known where to being

Look no further than Fleet Feet's employees. Keith Kimmons ran for UT I believe and ran a 15:19 on the road in October for a two plus minute victory. Ryan Snellen ran under 14:15 this spring and while gimpy right now has big plans for this upcoming track season.
Snellen's alma mater(Belmont) was fourth in the South Region earlier this month including two more guys that were under 14:15 this past spring. That is a group of studs that most penguins in Nashville don't even know about.
Eric Schmidt(Un. of Kentucky) and Brock Baker(UNC) are great guys to run with when they are back in town on a school break.
And if you're lucky, maybe that Georgetown All-American will show up...
There are fast guys here; you just have to know where to look.
The parks are great places to run. Miles and miles and miles of trails, all lengths and types too.
You would def be on the fastest in nashville, including college guys like Belmont. I would say show up saturday/ sunday morning at Belle Meade entrance or vaughns gap (any runner in town or running store would know what I am talking about) and look for people that are fast.

Have you seen results from any Belmont guys in the past few years?
