My condolences to you and your family. May God comfort you and your family. Matthew 5:4
My prayers and thoughts are with all of you. May God hold you all closely in His arms. May His strength and love be a comfort to you. May you find peace and courage in His love, and may you lean on Him throughout this healing process, as I speak from personal experience, it is a process but God does deliver.
Alicia, my heart breaks for you as a wife. I have no words for you other than God is great and He will carry you through this. I lost my husband last year in the same manner you lost yours. My husband dropped down to the ground shortly after our morning run and I tried to save him but it was not to be. My heart breaks for you and please know you will be in my prayers nightly.
And as a parent I cannot imagine what Ryan's parents are going through. May God be with you all.
My prayers, blessings, and God's comfort as you go through this difficult time.
Austin
How shocking. God's blessing be with you and Ryan.
Mr. Shay,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your loved ones. I too will be dedicating my next run to Ryan. God bless you all.
Heartfelt condolences on the loss of your amazing son...
I am a stranger to Ryan and I have never met him although Iwas familiar with his name and times. I only saw him a fleeting few seconds this morning as the pack ran by the hydration table at 102 transverse about mile 4. But as a former collegiate runner, avid recreational runner/marathoner and fan of the sport...other than a death among family or friends, there are few things more tragic than the death of a runner...
Each time we run, let us pray for those of us running, and pray for those who no longer run with us.
My deepest condolences

There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said, only that I think if had to pick how he was going to die at age 28, it's damn good it gets to be at the Olympic Trials, competing with some of the best in the world. At least he lived his life to the fullest. That said, on a day that was so exciting for all the promise the future holds, it makes it that much more upsetting that this had to happen to him. I can't imagine how his parents, his family, especially his wife feels - it is so incredibly sad. They should know he won't be forgotten.
I did not know your son but i know of the strength & dedication it takes to reach the heights he attained. The responses here speak volumes, We should all be so lucky to have raised such a fine son, and you should be proud of the fine example you set for him.
My deepest sympathy for your loss
I thought about his all day and came up with one thing to say:
I am sad.
so absolutely brokenhearted, my wife and I cried all morning with this news...and I am still crying.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Ryan's family and friends.
I consider myself a fan of this sport, but admittedly, I do not know much about Ryan. I am deeply saddened by his passing, yet having read all the comments posted here, I am inspired to give my all in life as Ryan did in his.
Requiesat in Pace, Ryan. My run tomorrow will be in honor of you.

Mr. Shay,
My deepest sympathies. I hope you find some comfort in this remarkable outpouring of good wishes. Clearly Ryan was an amazing man, one I only wish I'd had the opportunity to know. God bless you for your class and in your loss.
John
I'm very very saddened at your loss.
You're in my prayers.
our community has been crushed today with the sad news of ryans passing. in the short time alicia and ryan have called flag home, their spirit has created many beautiful memories of their kindness, love for life, and determination to live each day to its fullest. our hearts go out to alicia, their families, and all those touched by their presence.
love your friends in flag
I would rather be ashes than dust!
I would rather that my spark should burn out
in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot.
I would rather be a superb meteor,
every atom of me in magnificent glow,
than a sleepy and permanent planet.
The proper function of man is to live, not to exist.
I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them.
I shall use my time.
Ryan Shay certainty used his time and made the most of his life! I am humbled. R.I.P. Brother!

Know that he was an inspiration, even to those of us who know him only by reputation. You, your family, Alicia, and all of Ryan's close friends are in our thoughts and prayers.
My thoughts and prayers are with Alicia and your family. I couldn't believe the news of his passing today. It is truly a huge loss for the running community. It proves just how short and fragile life really is and that we must make the most out of the time that we're given.
Thank you Ryan for being such an amazing inspiration throughout the years. Rest in peace.
I am so sorry for your loss. Greater pain no one knows than the loss of a child. Many prayers extended your way.
