This is not good.
Race time weather (from the weather channel)-
44 degrees
37 degree wind chill
North winds of 20-35 mph gusting to 45 mph
50% chance of rain
How will this affect the race?

This will definetly slow the pace down. No one is going to want to take the lead going North. You can pretty much bet on the decisive move being made as soon as they turn South for the last time. A lone breakaway runner doesn't have a chance with 45 mph winds.
This is why the race should have never been held in NY. Choice to replicate the course and weather thrown out for money.
Should've had the race in Beijing.

Right. If the race was Sunday, it would be perfect. The NYRR actually planned the tropical storm. All of the other possible sites would have stopped bad weather from happening.
You are pretty stupid.
Wow , you really do not understand do you. How about a different location , with close to climatic and course conditions , vs a course that is not even close to what will be run.
sure, they should've held it in LA in August.....
but it was going to be a BEAUTIFUL day on Saturday until Tropical Storm Noel saw some of those fantastic bus stop ads and decided to show up,
Saturday: A chance of rain, mainly before 10am. Partly cloudy, with a high near 55. Breezy, with a north wind between 16 and 22 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
NOAA is probably more reliable that what you are getting. Also, the wind speeds are at 10m above ground level and often in a relatively open area. Thus, the gusts might be nasty, but the standard wind speed of 20mph means ground level of 12 or so. Still significant but not a gale. The 8 am wind is about 17, 9am 20. Also, currently the gusts are not supposed to get strong until 10am (below 30 before then).
It does imply that guys are not likely to take flyers and will have an incentive to stay in packs. This might lead to a slowish pace as no one will want to be on the point into the wind. This opens the race up to more people is my guess. It also means that they are not going to get a lot of spectators.
Race conditions look to be pretty good for Sunday, with less wind a a little warmer temps and some sun (also better for spectators).
Let's link this thread to the one about Hanson's using team tactics. They could form a breakaway group and 'rabbit run' the windy stretches to share the work.
Its crazy that this morning was beautiful, Sunday will be nice and tomorrow will be a windfest. Well at least the course is a loop so they won't be running into the wind all the way.
Just think if they were running the regular course, they'd be into the wind for the first 20 miles.
The updated forecast is for considerably worse weather as far as wind goes: 30mph with gusts to 44; that is almost twice the wind speed and hence quadruple the wind power.
Accuweather's current predictions. All you hand-wringers rejoice!

Maybe they shouldn't schedule the trials along the East or Gulf Coasts during hurricane season, even the later half of hurricane season.

You're right because money shouldnt have anything to do with it. They should just pull the prize money out of their asses. Lets just hold it in North Dakota and have no one watch so it will be purely for love.
You're a clown. Of course theyre going to hold it where the most money is. It's sports. Whatever the weather is this race is great for the sport.

I've got news for you stupid. Nobody is going to watch it in NY either. The only people out there will be family and hard core runners watching purely for love.
NY, right. For months we've heard all the bullshit bloviating about having the trials in the big media capital and it will get the same coverage and turnout that Munster Indiana would.
now the $hitty weather will give NYRR an excuse when 200,000 people don't show up in the park.

yeah, except they sold all those tickets to 200,000+ people.

You said it. I don't know a single non-runner who even knows about the OT tomorrow. And as of ***last*** week the percentage of club runners I know who even knew the OT on Saturday was seriously small.
I see the weather helping KK and Meb.
This is good prep for Beijing, at least we will have a team that can run well in cold inclement weather, just like the conditions they will face in Beijing.
Kinda reminds me of the XC WC this year.
