5'11"

Abdi Has a Posse
"Red Stripe. They're my friend's but I have one once in awhile."
And when he tries to pull a box of shoes out of the closed, other boxes fall to the floor. "Look. They all want to come out."
Then he licks the sole of his favorite Air Jordans.
I love knowing he has scores of shoes, jeans (on hangers). hats and crappy movies on DVD. If I didn't already know he trains like three times a day and has loads of friends, I'd say that looks like a big, lonely pad.
But Abdi's rockin' it his way.
Thanks for pimp music in the bedroom. Funny stuff.

I hope you're a girl.
Distance runners are not cool. They are obsessive-compulsive, completely self-absorbed, emaciated ectomorphs whose only concern in life is whether or not they can run around a large oval a few seconds faster than last year in their dumb-looking little running shorts, despite the fact that it helps nobody and nobody really cares. And by and large, they are socially retarded as well, though they think they're cool in the midst of their little clicks, as if though THEY are the only ones whoever wore the lampshade at a party.
dude, you are a tool. i don't really know where you get off coming onto a largely distance-runner populated message board and telling us we all suck, but jeebsus, find a life. it cracks me up how you try to sound all factual about it, like EVERY distance runner is a geek...yet you are the one on a distance runner-related thread spoutin off big words like "oval" and "retarded". get the hell outta here.
1, it is "cliques", 2, running is a large and diverse sport in terms of personalities. sorry your own social short-comings have kept you out of the "cooler" running cliques and that you are exiled to the tube sock-wearing geeks that can't break 17 min. for a 5k. good luck with your own self-hatred.
he could be talking about like bone clicks. you know how there is always like an odd bone click if you move your toes or something a certain way? he was retarded enough to come onto an Abdi thread and say that all distance runners are uncool...
Wow, amazing that anyone would be offended by those comments and feel the need to respond, but, then again, look who we're talking about. Oh, and by the way, I have run a 29:30 10k. Nothing that I said was inaccurate. It is a trivial, meaningless pursuit, this distance running thing we all waste our time doing, unless, of course, you need extra endurance to capture your daily meal.
"meaningless pursuit"
Looked like a preety nice house, car & neighbourhood. I wonder what "profession" would have brought such riches into his world. I can think of a zillion worse jobs and none better!
Of course being only 29:30 guy these ideas must be out of your narrow realm of comprehension.
I agree with you a 100%. I've come to realize this as well after years of serious running. I have seen this in many around me, not all, but quiet a few. Runners get compulsive about eating, sleeping, pace, everything, only to what....barely break 17 in a 5K. I began to see this behavior in myself, I'm only a "barely sub 16" 5k runner, but running took over my life, I began trying to eat healthy and lose weight, this lead to an eating disorder, I began to neglect class and school work for naps and rest so I can be ready for my next workout, i wouldn't type my lab reports or do my homework and just surf letsrun, trackshark, trackandfieldphoto....etc. Many of us feel like we have to look like we are starving in order to feel fit, and this got into my head and caused some hard times, but i know I'm not the only one.
Somewhere out there, right now, someone is holding a Star Wars lunch box convention.
haha, great post.

Wrong again...you have to run 25 laps around the track, not 20. It is 6.2 miles, not 5.0. You might be thinking of the 8k. And remember, right is this way ----->, and left is this way <------.
P.s. runners are skinny for the reasons that a football linebacker is huge and fat, because it just works better for the sport.
linebackers aren't fat, they are deisel, and very speedy and powerful the fat football players are the linemen
i'm sorry that i wasn't the cool kid in high school. that was my big dream, anyway...not making the olympic marathon team or anything like that. as for this sport being a meaningless pursuit, if that means living in a $500k+ house and testing the furthest possible limits of the human body then you should probably put a lampshade on your head. and to think--you ran a 29:30 8k in basketball shorts! there is real testing of the human body...
your comments are inaccurate because they are based on YOUR personal experiences and the way YOU participated at high school parties when you were 28 years old...
and as for gaining an eating disorder? thats your own fault. probably shouldve run faster than 15:59, then you wouldn't be so disappointed in gaining an eating disorder. imagine, eating healthy and losing weight...what a shame...
I would sit around Abdi's pool and have a few Red Stripes with him, he seems like a nice guy. Was also impressed with his house, not a bad living situation. Gotta get some posters or something for that room of his though. Looks kinda like an insane asylum with the bare walls.
After seeing just how "niced up" Abdi is, I couldn't help but wonder what kind of a effect his material wealth has on his running. In my opinion, running is very much an art form and runners share much in common with artists. What comes to mind here is something I have termed the "successful artist paradox". The paradox is that in order for an artist (and a runner alike) to be successful he or she must be starving (in the sense that they have deprived themselves of the vanities of material wealth); however, once the artist is successful he or she will become immersed in material wealth and removed from the conditions which allowed the artist/runner to hone their craft and experience "success". I predict that Abdi will not run well in the trials next month.
= Abdi drinks Red stripe
yeah i totally agree, his house and car and material things that hes probably had for a couple of years are going to destroy his chances of doing well at the trials.... ass clown
