Nice! a 1:03 1/2 marathon guy is suddenly the fastest 10K runner in the world by a nearly minute. That's not suspicious at all nope. What was the course, off a cliff?

there was a study that was commented on in an article on msnbc.com or fox news, cant recall which, within the last couple days. they did a study of running shoes and found very little diff in quality b/t no name brands and big name shoes. it also found very little diff in quality based on price.

if i can find it again i will post a link.

I would not be surprised if they found that all the stuff you can measure in a lab is very similar between cheap and expensive shoes. It's all the little stuff that you can't measure that makes the difference between getting a blister or not, getting black toenails or not, and getting injured or not. In general, the name brands get that stuff right, and the generics do not.

Oh yes, because the 12 year old Chinese kid sewing your name brand shoe is paying attention to the finest details. . .

Hillary Kimaiyo ran 3x1:01 in the half and 2x2:11
all in 2007. Saw him run in Carlsbad and OC , he won both by 3+ minutes. I think he is legit.

A legit 26:01 10km runner? Is that the same as a legit 1:01 half marathon runner?

Don Quixote was the race director I think - maybe the sponsor.

What a crock - a downhill race is why a decent runner ran 26.01, not the shoes - good grief.

I'm not going to defend the validity of the race or the record but I will say that I do love Spira shoes. I've got about 8 pairs of them and they are fantastic. They don't make me faster but I do hurt a lot less and the end of a high mialage week. In response to the Walmart comment, they are definately quality shoes and I'd recommend them to anyone!

I'm glad that Spira is finally doing some PR work but I'm not sure that this race was the best way to do it. They do need to draw attention to the antiquated rule but I agree that this race doesn't really prove anything other than the fact that running downhill is faster. I ran the race and I ran faster because it was downhill and hurt less because of the shoes. That's the message they need to get across!

The shoes are not banned!
The IAAF has not banned the shoes. They are in the process of testing many shoes to see if they give an unfair advantage. USATF will follow the lead of the IAAF.
Take that away from Spira's PR program along with running a race on an outrageous downhill course and proclaiming a record - and they have very little to brag about.

TROLL.

You have "about 8 pairs" of the Spira shoes? Why the hell would you have 8 pairs and why don't you know the exact number?

"I ran faster because it was downhill and hurt less because of the shoes."

Yeah, you're not with Spira.......riiiggghhht
shills and fake bans

Great... Spira's falsified "banned" PR campaign is getting a little long in the tooth so they are now resorting to having shills post on online forums. What a great company.

Quite the loping running style on the first guy, compared to the clipped, fast cadence of the second guy.

Who is Spira trying to sell to? Anyone interested in running knows that 26:01 isn't a world record. And anyone not interested in running wouldn't care.

Gosh, this is so sad to see in our sport, a delusional footwear company that only sells to pedorthic accounts, and actually believing their own hype.

Can you imagine Phil Knight trying to convince legitimacy of this course and time? Wouldn't even happen.

Yeah, WaveSpring Technology: let's put a 2 lbs weight in the heel of all of our running shoes. That'll definitely us run faster.

Ridiculous. Just lost respect for this company, going out of their way to create publicity in a sport of truths.
