Something is weird about that race. Iona sent a crap team, maybe Providence sat people too?
Providence didn't run Smith, McLaren, or Yeates - so 3 of their top 6. Regardless, credit to Syracuse for racing well against the available competition.
Too bad at large wins do not start until this coming weekend.
PC ran Haji too... Cuse is the real deal
Haji had also started Ramadan which will be over by the middle of October.
If I were Syracuse I would shut up and let there running do the talking later in the year!
This isn't a point garnering week and I'm sure Providence probably trained through hard.
It was a tune-up meet or maybe even a workout for them, while I'm sure 'cuse took it as a challenge.
I wouldn't lean any way.
well i heard syacruse all are fasting on nothing but oranges and had their buttholes surgically reparied for something fox calls operation "no homo".
so imagine if they had been really ready for this race.
Gotta laugh at all the hating losers here who refuse to give Syracuse credit when it is due. The OP isn't saying they are going to be national champs this season based on Friday's race, but anyone who thinks that the win they pulled off wasn't impressive needs to get their slow asses back on the roads and train. I'm sure you'll hit your sub-20 5K sometime soon, I just know it!
I agree - the original poster did not brag or make any claims as to what Syracuse will do this season just stated that Coach Fox is doing a good job and he is. In years past the Syracuse XC team was a total joke - in a very short time with hard work Coach Fox and his staff have turned the team around and made them better. Will they make NC's who knows and only time will tell, but the Syracuse program under Coach Fox is 1000 times better now than where he found it.
PC didn't run two of their top 5. Kind of important

Syracuse didn't run two of their top 5 (aka Murdock, Weeks).
Kind of important.
Didnt the Syracuse track team do really well last year with almost entirely all non distance points? Fox may be a great coach, but its not like he inherited a nothing team. Perhaps for cross they will be much better, but there are 2 other seasons, and we will see how well the distance runners and the whold distance oriented team does over the next few years in indoor/outdoor.
don't hate on Fox....the guy is doing a great job and so are his track assistants! 'Cuse had Drouin (NCAA runner-up Heptathlon) and stud men's sprinter that ran 10.16 I think in NCAA final at 100 meters. The program is on the rise!

Noone is saying Syracuse isn't good this year and people aren't happy when a new team does well....It just makes you look like a clown when you brag about a meet that doesn't matter. The win wasn't impressive because when teams aren't actually racing it, it matter very little. Best of luck to Syracuse but let's hold off on the celebration until the season actually starts.

Is Murdock in their top 5? My friend went there for a recruiting visit and the coach said that Murdock was pretty out of shape

I'm sorry who is bragging about the meet? The OP simply stated that Fox is doing a good job, which he is. Do you dispute this? Then I simply stated that it is ridiculous that people continue to act like Syracuse isn't getting better. I'm sorry if you want to skew things and make it sound like I or anyone else is bragging. Get a life.
Um you stated:
"but anyone who thinks that the win they pulled off wasn't impressive needs to get their slow asses back on the roads and train."
How is that not bragging?? You're denouncing anyone who doesn't think the win was impressive.
You are the one twisting around your words.
I think Syracuse will have a difficult time beating Providence when both teams run everyone. Syracuse is a talented, deep team, but Providence has the personnel to place top 10 at NCAA's. I don't see Syracuse being at that level for at least a year or two.
That being said, Syracuse can definitely qualify this year - between Pre-Nats and possibly Big East, they should be able to accumulate enough points to get them in.

If Haji had run first instead of fifth and run a minute faster they would have only had two fewer points and Syracuse one more -- it would not have made a dent in the results in points or average time.
I do not have a horse in this race, just an observation.
