There's actually a rule in Indiana that whichever team wins Inter-collegiates goes to nationals.

Come on, man, that's not even true. The only thing you get from winning intercollegiates is a 10 second head start at regionals.

Besides, if this meet meant as much as you say ISU might actually have gotten to run at the big meet they host every year.

Does Blaine zimmerman even run anymore? It seems he threw in the towel after a good conference showing in cross 2005.

I think Zimmerman has a career ending injury in his hip/hamstring or something like that. Not too sure how true this is since it's passed along by word of mouth.

does a meet on sept 15 really mean anything? why the need to run everyone now? iu had four returners run well. not too worried about them.

Yes, it does. As much as a football game on September 15th.

I'm assuming this statement is sarcastic, but I'll take the bait just in case because of the "as much as a football game on Sep. 15th" comment. That statement is blatantly untrue. A loss on September 15th for a football team likely means losing any hope of a national championship for a BCS team and a black mark on any other team's record who hopes to impress. In XC, the at-large selection committee doesn't even consider races before September 22nd when factoring in the points system to determine at large teams invited to Terre Haute. September racing is largely irrelevant beyond a workout. Now you can flame me for taking this post too seriously.

Its a massive shame our sport has been diluted to this. A win is a win, and a loss is a loss. Performances outside of Regionals, Conferences, and PreNationals do not have merit in the eyes of the masses. Competition is undervalued with the exception of the late season championship. No competition, I wonder why our sport is dead.

um how many teams get criticized for overracing and peaking too early? ours is a delicate sport with specific timing geared to produce optimal results in a span of about three weeks.

ISU beats IU occasionally at this meet. it never matters; hell, notre dame doesn't even run. these meets are treated as training runs by IU, while ISU in the mire of its infinite inferiority complex, always runs to try and beat IU. big deal.

look at hte previous weekend's results--had IU run hubers and weatherford in this meet... would they have won?

inferiority complex's drive athletics. Without them, there would be no underdogs, no sports movies, no excitement. No Gonzaga, no Cinderella teams. No Larry Bird. Anyhoo- you guys are no michigan state- so dont assume anyone gets too excited about beating you!

Having ran in this meet in the early 80's and fininshing 12th one year while running for a then NAIA school. Everyone at this meet wants to take down the big dogs. ISU wants to win each and every year at whatever cost it takes. IU is generally good enough to keep their eye on the price in Nov, but still win this event when they run in it. Chapman generally did not have his teams participate. Notre Dame always host the Catholic Championships the same day - they never attend. Still with some of the times the freshmen ran in a meet last week they still may not have won with them running. IU will be good in a few years, again, but do not expect to see IU or ISU running in Terre Haute on Nov 19.

i agree with what someone said above - coaches think too much. our sport is dying and one of the many reasons is that coaches hold out kids out of too many meets. go race! our sports' season has been whittled down to regionals conference and prenationals. even the griak meet is not what it used to be. and most smaller meets, if they even exist anymore, are a shell of their former selves. the season starts Aug 31 and like every other sport out there, that's when the competitions should "count". my head hurts. good bye

you're all a bunch of fartfaces- ISU is a very good program- and the MVC has been a consistently productive conference - coaching xc in NJ- one can't help but look at all the local colleges success- Rider, Rutgers, Seton Hall and realize that if ISU could race out East they would have a very legitimate shot most years of making it out. Say what ou want- it's not tough out here. Great lakes is "mad hard" as the teens say. Bottom line is ISU does a great job with what they have- and they'd embarrass a bunch of East Coast programs that find it impossible to develop some great talent. IU....same story different year. They always get great talent…….what becomes of it…?go ahead- let me hear about the Jeffersons and Bob flockin Kennedy…IU’s a softy environment- Terre Haute’s like Sayreville, NJ- brickers who work hard and fly out of the bar swinging on friday night when IU’s sitting crosslegged in the back sippin martini’s and passing tips on hair gel. Year after year it’s the same thing. Helmer’s coached some tough kids- he’s in for a shock....godd thing Iu's got 4 million douche's on this website to back them up- IU Mens Cross Country.."got estrogen?"

I'm not an expert on NCAA rules so I don't know the particulars, but I heard that IU didn't bring any of the freshmen because they didn't know who was going to redshirt yet and that if they took them to an away meet they wouldn't be able to redshirt.
