Running well off your threshold and then kicking it in at the end is not considered a hard effort when talking about how much it takes out of you. Lagat was probably in his normal 329 shape for him to win this race and peaked at the right time. If you think a 335 with a 39 last 300 is what Lagat considers a hard effort you are mistaken. Now that doesnt mean he didnt run as hard as he could at the end!
