David Nightingale and CORNELL
jimmy wyner for the win and he will lead cornell to the podium for sure, if not first!
cornell is so deep this year and they never choke like princeton. Look out for penn too, they have some amazing recruits.
Women?

2005
4th- penn
6th- cornell
2004
3rd- penn
7th- cornell with bruce hyde winning
2003
7th- penn
8th cornell

That should be 2002.
Cornell-
Jimmy Wyner-
Top Returner
Sage Canaday-
7th returner- 11th last year. 4th in heps 10k, 2:20 marathon.
Zac Hine-
2nd in the 10k at heps. 14:14.
Those top 3 are all potential top 5-10's.
So then if you have two guys step up out of pool of 14:30-40 guys, you have a pretty competitive team.
Princeton should obviously be a huge favorite, but Cornell could be pretty good. I'm sure other ivies are in similar positions and it just comes down to who has worked hardest this summer and races well on that day.

enough said about cornell. You don't think that wyner is licking his chops at not having to run behind true? That guy is a leader and he'll have his team right behind him.
plus, penn only loses one guy out of the top five. add one of the strongest recruiting class in the ivies and I think they will surprise a lot of people. They may not beat princeton or cornell, but they will be competitive, pushing dartmouth or columbia down to the lower half of the race.
Princeton is the huge huge favorite but they showed in track last year they can totally choke. They showed indoors however they can totally dominate.
The problem is they have twice the talent on their team as the rest of the schools so even if they choke they should still win.
They get 1 or 2 Footlocker finalists a year and a 1 or 2 sub 9s guys EVERY year. The rest of the league never seems to get this except for Darmtouth who got Ben True.
But most kids who are into sports and want to go to one of the big 3 (HYP) will usually end up at princeton. The rest of the league is playing catch up. Lananna showed it can be done and it seems like Penn and Cornell are making some inroads in recruiting.
on the men's side, princeton has only gotten 2 footlocker kids in the past 6 years (ben sitler and ben stern), and only had one kid on last year's team who broke 9 as a high schooler (sitler). they definitely get some good recruits, but let's not overstate things. that said, penn also looks tough this year, and columbia and cornell should be solid as well.
Someone explain to me the Penn hype.
Goldberg, McEwen?
Who else? A kid who made it to footlocker? Big f-in deal. Sitler ran under 8:55 in high school and he wasn't even top 10 at heps.
the cornell folks like to rub their own horse... or whatever the saying is
Women: Princeton looks very, very solid. About Cornell: they took huge graduation losses in track, and some of those "lost" were top distance runners. The only indication I have of the Big Red's recruiting is the list on DyeStat--and I only see a few women's names there. I realize that many schools don't bother giving their info (or all of it, anyway) to DyeStat--the coaches are slightly busy with other tasks!--but if that DS list is *any* indication, I'd say it could be a challenging year in track *and* xc for the Red.
Men's side: Is Canaday going to run xc? Also, as a former MD guy myself, I think it's a bit unrealistic to *depend* on Wyner--fundamentally an 800/1500 guy--FTW. In any case, Princeton's men had a couple off days at outdoor Heps, but showed their ability in xc and indoors. If Cornell can continue its upward progress in Heps xc finishes that would be a solid achievement, IMO.
scissor me xerxes!
I still wouldn't underestimate Columbia. They are losing a couple important seniors however they still have Paul Morris (8th last year) and Jeff Randall (3rd indoor 3k, 2nd outdoor steeple) as top returners as far as I know. They have a great coach there and tend to run well as a team when it counts. I wouldn't be surprised if milers Liam Boylan-Pett and Zach Richard took a big step in cross country as well.
Big Red opened today with a dual against Army on Cornell's home course (over 5k and 8k):

Looks like Canaday is indeed running cross, a huge plus for the Red. Women got some nice help from newcomers--men, too, actually.
Last year there were some photos online of the same meet (run at West Point). Anybody know whether there are photos of the meet this time around? Anybody know whether *last* year's pics are still up (and, if so, the URL)?
Any other Heps teams open today?
1. Princeton
2. Cornell
3. Brown
4. Penn
5. Dartmouth
6. Who cares because they suck
max kasak from cornell ftw barely edges out penn's phil cawkwell
so I guess Wyner is starting off his Heps title run by being the 5th guy on the team
