I was at a track meet in Swangard Stadium in the late 90s. Johnny won the 800m. Afterwards, he sat around for a while, icing a knee, chatting with his coach(?) I think. Me and my friends were right there, in awe, but we didn't bug them. We did listen to this wise coach-like person though, talking away about the world running scene and all, while Johnny quietly listened. Sometimes the coachy guy would smile at us, acknowledging that we were listening, and very interested in what he had to say. Johhny got up a couple of times and was limping baaad! Later, I saw him waiting for transportation - quietly in the background - never making a fuss. These are my memories of seeing Johnny in Vancouver. Another time I watched him at Mt Sac, 800m as part of a relay. Man, he made it hurt!!! So I got the feeling that he worked REAL HARD, and didn't make a fuss. Here we were, sitting next to this guy who made 4 Olympic Finals. And we were speechless. :)
