its funny because she is going to be running in the olympic trials at the end of june.
she also got first at state in the 100, 200, 400 & 800.
for THREE YEARS IN A ROW NOW!!!!
i know laura personally and she would be soooooo embarrassed if she knew about this web page. haha

That is BRUTAL. Her parents must be proud as hell.
trust me, they are.
im pretty sure in 8th grade she got 2nd at state XC, she would have got first but her coach didnt tell the team when the final strech was. so they were hella behind but she still pulled off 2nd!
I wonder what her training is like. I would think she'd want to take some time off after this long season to recharge the batteries. Do you know if her next race is the trials? Hope she does well.
I find her performances extreemly impressive, but with young female athletes (or even male athletes for that matter) it's a mistake to start projecting them too far into the future. Puberty can do some nasty things to young folks, and they are never the same again.
Also, there are injuries, burnout, etc. Just look at Sadie Pollard from Minnesota: She won the 100, 200, and 400 as an 9th grader and this year, her senior year, barely made it to state, and ended up dropping out of the finals one event she did qualify for.
I would tell Laura to enjoy it, but keep your options open. Try another sport for a season or two (summer/winter) I recommend swimming, because it will do wonders for your cardio system, but anything to take a physical and mental break from all the pressure that is likely being put on you right now.
1991. Liz Mueller , waterford H.S. , Waterford, CT..
She set the then national record int he 800m at 2:05, ran a 59 400m. And was national champion in the kinney high school xc in 1991 and 1992.
Sad note, she chose to go to a local college instead of any offers she reveived from over 75 D1's. She bombed, dropped running all together, and is now a professional boxer.
I could be wrong but this girl is a bit older now (although still in high school)... it looks like she has done some maturing already.I'm more skeptical of the 9th grader who runs well at cross country and 5k because they weigh 78lbs or something...in the video of the 800m race, she looked like another collegiate distance runner on the track... not a little girl

Mueller only won Kinney/Footlocker in '91. She did not win in '92. As for 2:05 being a national 800m record, not sure what you might be referring to, since the recognized HS record was much faster than that as of that time period.

Yeah, good call. She looks physically mature, unlike Jordan Hasay or Ashley Brasovan.
when i was in HS there a girl who got 2nd at state (Texas, 5A) in the shot put and the 100m...
never seen that duplicated...to bad she wasn't a dude...she would have made a beastly football player...
those times would placed her in the top 2 in each event(100, 200, 400, and 800) at the IHSA (Illinois State Meet)....in both the class A and AA!
....well except the 400, her time would of place her 3rd
Unreal!
Thanks for the post
PS...and if she was from Illinois, there would be about 100 more threads on the this girl!
Illinois dominates all running threads...we love our runners!

Nice run!!
I go to school with laura and she is definitely very humble about everything that is happening. She stays after class the ask the teacher a small question and she is a 4.0 student. Her mom is also the gym teacher at Fargo South and if you saw her you would know why Laura is the way she is now haha
I think she's 17 already
no, shes 16
She just made to the SEMI's....great job...wow
