Another day at the office.
I love that guy. "The Mayor of Tucson" indeed!
amazing nenow is on that list 6 times and nobody ever gives him a nod as a top American.

WTF?
Wow what this list illustrates is just how bad the 90s were for U.S, distance running. BK, TW and...
Hardly any worse than the late 70's, from Prefontaine's run in 74 to 81 there was a drought. Aside from Nenow, the late 80s weren't much to speak of, either.
and culpepper. but your point stands - that guy just always seems to get forgotten.
Anyone notice that of Abdi's three best times, his highest finish was 7th place?
Abdi has been making very consistent gains over the years. At his rate of improvement of 1 second per year, he will surely dip into the 27:20's in 2 short years.
Why exactly were the 90s so slow?
That's OK no one expects him to be number one. Just adding to the numbers is enough for me. If he is consistently our 3rd to 5th best distance runner, maybe we aren't as bad as we think we are.

Check out number 3 on that list. He's already been there.

It was a drought in terms of getting close to or breaking Prefontaine's AR. While not as long as Nenow's mark stood, 7 years is still a long time for the AR to stand, especially in the context of all of the legendary runners that you've cited.
He was going quietly about his work until Malmo blabbed it all over Letsrun

WTF?
not sure WTF you mean by WTF.
not many discussions on here ever consider him, just Pre, Shorter, Ryun, 1 or 2 others.

Shorter came within 2 seconds of Pre's mark the very next year(1975). Virgin broke Pre's AR only 5 years later(1979).
