Appears Lisa Rainsberger will remain the last American to win Boston...'85.
Perhaps Kastor had trouble reacting to the sudden pace change, but will be able to recover with a little time.
Ok... I can't see the race... so maybe I am getting this wrong, but isn't Deena just going to be focused on making sure she goes to the OLYMPICS? This is the OLYMPIC Trials after all. Her pay check for top American is probably good enough anyway. You can't blame her for being sensible...
Wait, dropped out or just fell back?
Deena, I mean...
Damn I wish I had this on TV...
Also, what about the Spira guys, are they really leading?

Deena cratering at 5:20 pace surge
She should drop out. Hasn't she raced a major spring and fall marathon since the Olympics? Too many marathons...
it's on VS channel. somewhere near the ESPN channels. maybe that'll help you find it if you have a tv. if no tv....sorry
Dude...you're a year early.

Next year's Boston is the Women's US Olympic Trials.
No, this is NOT the Olympic trials. It is being held in Boston, ut next year, as a separate race...
Sheesh!
I think maybe Deena might not be out of it. They've got a long way to run, and it looks like she hasn't quite blown up. We'll see, but we may see her get back into it through Newton.
Peter
This race isn't the American Oly trials; that's next year in a different race in Boston.
Couldn't they just SAY they were going to wear illegal shoes in order to be disregarded by the "real" contenders, and then wear legal shoes and win legitimately?
Hmm. There are two of me.
Peter
So if one of these two Spira guys actually hangs on and is coming down Boyleston in the lead, will they let him finish? If he's DQ'd already for wearing illegal shoes will they stop his progress or will they have to examine the shoes before officially DQ'ing him. Man, I hope they drop and this doesn't play out, I'd feel really bad for the true winner.
Where are the men now? BAA updates suck...only have men through 9 miles?
there are no 'illegal shoes'; that is ridiculous.
Ok, yet again. Rojo is on top of it way before the american announcers are.
On the men's side, those two out front are officially done. Yes, they ARE DONE. And this is right when the announcers are starting to take them seriously.
If you look at the splits, the top two were at 10k at 30:38 and 15k at 46:45, meaning they ran a 16:07. Way slower than the 15:15, they were running. They are in trouble.
The pack was at 10k at 32:34 and 15k st 48:39, meaning they did there last 5k in 16:05. The top two shouldn't be running 16 minute 5k. The other pack is jogging and gaining.
As for Kastor, I'm shocked. I think the announcers are shocked as well as they are now putting in all of the kastor tape that they have.
I also can't believe that of the lead pack of 4, carol just told us which 2 are going to win. Give me a break. We're only 1:30 in.
Odd time to run special piece on Deena...as she drifts back. Ah well, it was probably preplanned for this time.
she is done. this is unbelieveable that she can't hold this pace.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
