but will cheriyot want to run the olympic marathon in that heat, when he may make more to run a major city marathon chicago, berlin, ny or even dubai.

Cheruyiot will have won $1 million for his last 3 marathons plus the marathon series (guaranteed no worse than tied for 1st right now), so why not go and run Beijing? It would only enhance his status as #1 in the world. If only the Kenyan team doesn't screw the pooch in the selection process...
