Thanks for this, wejo. So glad you went.
Thanks for this, wejo. So glad you went.
make sure you ask Tergat how his conversations on myspace with the430miler are going...
How the F are they gonna fit a huge field in between those stakes??? Hell with the heat, it's gonna be a Rollerball situation out there.
Wejo - how about some photos of the Americans, especially Cack.
Tergat was actually 2nd in the 10,000m in 1996 and 2000. Not 2000 & 2004.
Will this be the official race progress thread? :)

nice pics, it looks like you are about to melt in that pic w/ Tergat.
That pic was inside a room with air conditioning. The heat will be a serious problem. Usually races in heat like this are done at night. Hopefully there will be a little ocean breeze but coming from 30 degree weather this heat is a complete shock to my system and I grew up in Texas. Granted in Texas I would never wear pants and a boot around in the summer but hey I saw some guys in full suits yesterday. The men's race is last but I bet most of the teams are at the course for a large part of the day. I'm trying to put off going to the course till as late as possible. Maybe they have an airconditioned area for them to sit around but I seriously doubt it. They should just hose the guys as they come by.
And I seriously wonder how people will fit between those stakes as well. That first turn means the first quarter might be around 56. It's going to be crazy. The tight course (although someone said last year they had a similar tight turn last year early in Japan), the zig zag nature of the part of it by the finish (the course is on two sides of a road. The part by the start is more wide open. The part by the finish is like a rat maze), the sand traps, and perhaps most importantly the heat (i expect a few people to go to pass out) make it like nothing I've seen before. Should be interesting.
Tergat confirms he is on Myspace and PWNS you all.
Is the race on WCSN? I just posted a thread asking that. If not I can give live updates via phone to someone.
Lovely words and pictures.
Keep them coming.
Well, I wonder how things are right now?
This is so cool, wejo, these reports. I mean, lets face it. THIS IS YOUR JOB!!! :)
Why aren't the schoolkids in those pictures running?
have a great time today wejo! you should probably try to call somebody over here with updates, I don't think wcsn has the race live.
Thanks Wejo, this is terrific stuff. Try to stay out of the sun. You look a little warm.

quite a race and i'm sure we'll hear a lot more about whatever happened to kenenisa bekele. btw, ethiopians go by their first name . . . their second name is their father's first name which means there are no family names that get passed down from generation to generation). we might refer to them as the bekele brothers, but they wouldn't here. a bit confusing to be sure.
quite a race. eritera is the arch-enemy of ethiopia these days (that's the border where the british "tourists" were taken . . . or got lost, depending on who you believe). kenyans looked pretty strong in the team race
Funny how we are all so much the same acround the world. U say we(USA) complain reagardless of heat, altitude, whatever. Yup, we do, yet isn't that human nature when one is not confide, secure and sure of them selves? Duh! We have a non profit to support a specific group of runners in USA , yet, there will always be the complaint, "Why that group?", then if not about the group then the complaint is "Who started the group?" then "Where is the money?" and of couse the last American question is "Where is my cut?"
Hmmm "....you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time...a take of of Ab. Lincoln, so we, w/o the internet of course, do the best we can with the tools we have...
