Good find. That was incredible.
the guy who ran that hosts the running log running2win.com. There's actually a thread about that it on their message board.

Bitter much Hoyamike?
Wow, what a race! Seems like Stahr could have held off just about everyong- never let anyone get an edge on him and just pushed them into the bank. Man, that would frustrate me to no end to not be able to get around him. Irish was a hell of a MD runner himself, makes me wonder what those two could have run if they didn't go so tactical about it.
Only guys saying a guy like Mike Stahr is bitter must be jack asses.
he ran 1:45.x relay as a frosh, name me one of those lately.
Only guys, ever to to ever run faster at 1000M on a flat track are Kersh and Webb than Stahr and Irish.
Get a perspective, on the Armory Speedway these guys would have gone 4:06-07 yards, forget Carlotti who ran 12:23 at Vanny, in the old days comparatively and was a 1:50 guy, with 48.5 wheels and was a 4:08 yards guy himself in HS.
sweet race, i enjoyed it a lot. thanks hoyamike!
That was one of the most amazing races I've ever seen. Thank you so much for this thread!
Mike Stahr pretty much put on a clinic of how to run on the tight Millrose track. You can see how much more effort it takes the guys trying to pass in lane 2 on the turns. Stahr just holds that inside lane. Thanks for putting it up.
did these guys have solid careers in college (I know that they weren't big stars, since I don't remember much about them outside of high school); or post college?

Great race. Carlotti just wouldn't quit. Mark Belger (with the beard) jumps on the track to congratulate the winner. Best career would go to Marsala. Wonder what happened to Giles? He had all the talent in the world - a great high school runner.
Factoid: Carlotti would become Brad Hudson's legal guardian in Oregon.
You know it looks hard to get by on that track, but think about how hard it is to change gears like that for the leader! He held off multiple challenges from TWO runners who took turns trying to get by him!
Stahr predicted sub 4 for this race?? The announcer said a 58.6 wasnt to fast for the first 440?? If this stuff was said today Stahr and the announcers would be getting ripped all over letsrun for being arrogant and for not knowing anything about their sport. Its actually quite sad to watch this video...
I think Stahr ran about 3:54xx on the DM at Penn9running for Gtown) one year. Also ran a leg on the Arizona State team that set a collegiate record in the 4x800
saw mike stahr develop at carmel h.s. in new york, he raced weekly against my younger brother.
as a h.s. frosh stahr would run the first 440 of a mile in 61, then die badly, finishing last.
as a soph he'd go through 880 in 2:02 then die badly usually finishing in the top five.
as a junior he'd run the three quarters in about 3:05 then hold on for dear life, and never lost.
by senior year it was lights out, four laps at that pace.
a great hs, college, and open competitor he was.
interesting race!

Or go out at 58.6 on a tiny indoor track....sounds like either this kid never learned his lesson all 4 years..or his coach didnt know better....obviously extremely talented...but what you are describing is ridiculous.
