Hey, it may not be the "Best Running Store in America", but there's no need to drag Fleet Feet or its fine employees into this. Besides, it was probably the Boulder Performance Training Group's assistant coach or pacer for female workouts doing that. |

Nope, you must either have never lived in Boulder or be really stupid.[/quote] i really did live in boulder and found myself driving to at least half my workouts. this is even more the case if you train with a group that meets 5 times a week or more. i was always having to drive 10 to 20 minutes to start my runs. i love boulder but the good runs are pretty spread out. |

I have nothing for or against Boulder, but whenever I hear anything about Mottram he just comes off like a jerk. Like he thinks he is the best and no one appriciates him. I definatly could care less about that mullet wearing, big, douchebag. |

So...You...Are...Saying that you care about him? |

Dave Kuehls says here comes the hard part, the philosophy lesson. Akron, Ohio is a cult. We can define a cult by this: 1) It thinks as one, it does not allow thoughts that vary from the accepted norm. 2) It will define your happiness for you (if it decides it wants you to be happy). 3) It acts as one when it feels threatened or in need. 4) It never, ever will let you to leave. Lesson two: This is also, for the most part, The United States of America.... |

No, he's saying that he definatly (sic) cares about him. |

Ah, there's the devil in the details. So that would be you and not "you". I couldn't see myself meeting others to run more than maybe three times a week, more than that really isn't necessary. |

But Mottram trains with a guy on a bike and a large group. |

where in boulder do you live and how many good runs are there from the door? no matter where you live in town you really only have a few good options of trails to run out the door. half the time even those good 'trail' runs involve long stretches of pavement on the creek path and other bike trails. boulder has solid runs but it is far from a great place to live if you love having tons of good runs from the doorstep. |

Im thinking he doesn't have anything against the place/town but he would rather not train there. He loves NYC but I don't think its on his list of places to a do a proper buildup. Like the post headline states...."doesn't like Boulder to TRAIN"... |

I live downtown and all the runs from my door are great. I'm not one of those who needs trails for it to be a "great" run, though, I'm definitely not a hippie trail runner, nor a yuppie trail runner for that matter. However, even my runs along the creek path are >50% unpaved. Then again, I rarely go under 5 miles when I run, it's usually for much longer so trailheads are easier to get to by foot for me than they would be for someone who doesn't run that much. There's probably no place to have "tons of good runs from the doorstep" if you're that finnicky and also care to live in anything besides a small, dull, and/or isolated community. |

i guess i was confused. i thought this was a thread more about boulder trails. |

Forgot to close that tag, my bad. If you meant trail runs, then it would have been best if you had stated that to begin with. You just said "runs" and that's the commentary I went with. However, as I've already indicated, I live downtown and it's not more than a few miles by foot to several trailheads. For people who want to do their entire 3 mile run on dirt trails that's not going to work. |

besides altitude, duluth mn kicks boulders ass in every category (well, a 5 month winter is, of course, arguable)...laugh if you want, but it's true... lots of trails nicer people lower cost of living fewer rich kids |

For many years Mottram has been training just outside London within easy runnig distance of Richmond Park,Bushey Park and Wimbledon Common. All have soft trails with no rocks, are green with plenty of trees and trails that go for miles and miles. It is therefore quite unlike Boulder which has a grandeur missing in a London suburb, but you can runwithout having to concentrate so hard on the vagaries of the Boulder trails. |
| what did he expect? |

It's that concentrating on the vagaries that gets me everytime. It's what keeps me from putting in more than 60 mpw and from being world class. That's it, I'm moving to suburban London! |
