The Office for Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Education is looking into a complaint filed with the agency against Ohio University. The complaint alleges that OU's recent decision to drop men's swimming and diving as varsity sports programs violates Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.

Trust me when I tell you that 16x walks the walk and she and her BGSU alum husband (a kick ass steepler) have made themselves heard. But it appears that the OU folks are pulling out all the stops here.
ou're probably going to have to get both the president and the AD ousted to make it happen but IMHO there is enough passion there to get that done.
Did 16x also go to Ohio U. for grad school?
Some interesting stuff posted in the past few days on:
I hear that there is a 5km in Athens next weekend that benefits the football team? I wonder how many runners would like to help the football team get more money? Also, I was told the other day the president of OU was suppose to start the Athens Marathon a few weeks back, but with the Men's Track and Field situation was replaced!
What will they think of next to raise money for the football team which lost 1.9 million last year!! Maybe a bake sale..
I'm not from the area, but just out of curiosity, how many of you on this board who live within reasonable driving distance of Athens would consider travelling to run the 5k/10k listed in the ohio track blog to show support? I wonder how many people the Letsrun posters could bring the race. It'd be pretty cool to flood the race with participants, although I also understand how unlikely that would be.
The race next weekend is the one with proceeds going to the football team. The race on May 19th benefits the PT program and the Men's Track team.
Many runners from Columbus, Lancaster, Newark, ect. are only 45 minutes away and could run. Plus, parents of college students, alumni and people from Athens would be the market for this race.

Please let us know if you plan to have another rally, so we can get more to the next rally!
Go Bob Cats!!
Yes, keep us informed. Maybe we can get more students, alumni and friends to the next rally to "Save Track and Field at OU"
The race this weekend is NOT for the football team. All the proceeds go to the Sports Administration Program. While it is being held before the spring football game, again NONE of the proceeds from the 5k are going to the football team. All will be to help fund the top Sports Administration Program in the country.
In addition to the race there is also a cornhole tournament. It's a 64 team tournament with the winner getting 6 free wings a day for an entire year from Buffalo Wild Wings and a free set of cornhole boards! If you are in the area you should really do the cornhole event. Only $15 to enter and have a chance to win free wings for an entire year is not a bad deal. All proceeds from this even will benefit the Sports Administration program as well.
For more info go to
Nowhere do I see that the race benefits the Sports Administration Program. Perhaps it is listed somewhere on the form but I couldn't find it on the web page.
Hopefully, next year if you have the race, you will say what the race benefits.
With all of the focus on the problem football team and the cutting of sports programs at OU, especilly men's track and field, your info could lead one to beileve it was a promotion for the football Green and White game.
Bobcat Blitz will consist of....
Gridiron Gallop 5K Run/Walk
gets underway at 10:00 a.m. at Peden Stadium.
The scenic course takes participants on a course
starting at the 50-yard line of Peden Stadium.
I looked at the info about the race and also thought the race was part of the football activities Saturday.
From today's USA Today - James Madison's hard cuts spur Title IX debate
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/other/2007-04-19-title-ix-jmu-cover_N.htm
Why is this runohio guy continuing to push his title IX agenda on OU. It has been reported repeatedly that the OU situation has to do with football, not title IX. I know. I get the Athens newspaper. runohio, try to stay on topic.
Glad to see there is a group of support for the Ohio University Men's Track and Field team and other sports at OU.

OTHER SCHOOLS CUTTING BACK
The U.S. Department of Education, which enforces Title IX through its Office of Civil Rights, says cutting teams to achieve Title IX compliance is a disfavored practice.
That doesn't stop schools from doing it. Some others that plan to cut teams at the end of the current school year:
Rutgers:
Will drop five men's teams and one women's. The board of governors reaffirmed its decision at a meeting last week at which protesters read a letter from a major donor who said he would no longer support the school unless men's rowing is reinstated.
Ohio University:
Will drop women's lacrosse, swimming and indoor and outdoor track.
Butler:
Will drop men's swimming and lacrosse.
Clarion:
Will drop men's cross country, indoor and outdoor track.
Slippery Rock, in the same Division II conference in Pennsylvania as Clarion, dropped five men's teams at the end of last school year. Three women's teams originally slated for cuts were kept under pressure from suits filed by female athletes. Last week, in settlement of the suits, the school agreed to set aside an additional $300,000 to upgrade facilities and coaches' pay for women's sports.
