Even if the course takes 10 seconds off your track time, this would make Camargo the fastest female miler in the NY area. She has made an enormous improvement this year.

Zofia Weiciorkowska ran 4:51, which is above and beyond what she would normally do, and she's clean. Claudia's time does not need to be called into question on this one. My guess would be a fast course.

mega downhill is an understatement. i ran a couple years ago and ran ~25 sec faster than what i had been running all year.
spencer ran 3:59 at fifth avenue. which was at the beginning of his yearly cycle not the end like all the other guys.
i ran it a few years now. i've run a legt 4:12 and a 3:53 15 on the track and ran 4:05 there. So yea its much faster. but not 15-20 secs. more lke 8ish.
look at mark miller's time ths year. he ran an indoor 411 just last weekend at bu, ran 4:03 yesturday there. so, its waaay faster, more for some than others. but generally speaking i'd say a good rule of thumb is around 5-10 secs, with a compramise being 8.

The course gives a lot more to slower runners, not just in absolute terms but in percentile ones. That is, if a 4:00 miler might gain 8-10 seconds, a 5:00 miler might pick up 20 and a 6:00 miler well over 30. I imagine this is because slower runners, even when cardiovascularly fit, can be severely limited by mechanical factors under normal circumstances in a way the fastest guys obviously are not.
i still would have liked to have seen her pee in a cup and pass the test. a 36-year old who is setting prs and who looks like a man raises red flags in my book.

In starting the thread, I was not suggesting that Camargo was doping! Of course, that seems to be the conclusion here when anyone gets better fast. The truth is that she alread WAS very fast, a 2002 Argentina national champion in the 5000 and steeplechase. I believe that she was coming back from illness this year. My point was that she is now not only the fastest distance runner in NY (2:35 at the NYC Marathon) but also the fastest miler, with her 4:24 being worth no worse than 4:40 on the track.

The Fifth Avenue Mile is net downhill, (slightly), and is considered a few seconds fast than a track mile:
