Perhaps all of you should learn from Rupp in that if you work extremely hard, believe in your Coach (Salazar, much like Webb & Razcko), great opportunities will come forth.
I kind of follow your point, but this is maybe the worst example I've ever heard. Mr. Webb is not exactly tearing it up since leaving UM.

I'm not sure infamous is the correct word choice. Infamous implies a negative conotation of noteriety, while famous simply means well known in a positive light. Maybe you meant that instead?
The meet is so famous it's in-famous.
holy snap, phil knight looks like sh1t. whats up? making millions of dollars is wearing him thin?
28:28, bad weather, December, not in peak form...could equal a sub 27:50 during the summer. 6 months more training plus peak form plus better race = better time.

Yeah, because setting personal bests at 1500m, 5000m, and having a fantastic debut at 10000m is horrendous. Didn't he also win USA XC 12k on year? Sounds like he did much better at Michigan...

Is that why the NCAA has all those arcane rules which make it nearly impossible for an athlete not to be in violation at some point? Is it why athletes like Jeremy Bloom cannot make money at skiing while also playing football?
Sports for enjoyment? So paying the Steve Spurriers and Urban Myers of the football world seven figure salaries is because they are the best at teaching sports for enjoyment?
"Brett Schoolmeester, another American, was second in 28:46.26, just beating off Troop over the last two laps. Troop, who took his fourth national title at the distance, ran 26:53.31."
Rupp is in peak form, he had NC XC less than a month ago, within a few weeks went sub 14 in the 5k and then a few weeks later 28:28 in the 10k. there's no way he backed off his training after XC, he's running these times so "early" in the season because he's really running them late in the XC season.
I'm not knocking his performance, he's a beast. But, I'm not a believer in a sub 28 10k in six months. I don't think he can stay at this level continuously long enough to take 30 seconds off. I think he'll need to get back to his base, wok up to his peak again and then shoot for 28:10, which I think he might be able to hit this track season in better conditions, maybe 28:05.
But he should lose the breatheright.
I don't understand how people can extrapolate a sub-28:00 or a sub-27:50 from this race. Yes, it's only "December," but who's to say that he's NOT in peak form right now, as he was during NCAA nationals a couple of weeks ago? Somebody pointed out that the time translates to a 13:44, and, sure, the conditions weren't ideal and he was by himself for part of it, so he's probably faster... perhaps more like a 13:37 ironically enough?
i was sitting next to JR last night and was very impressed with rupps run. It looked effortless. He is a awesome mover. At no stage of the race did he look under any sort of pressure .
Also i question the accuracy of JR'S 200 splits.
Rupp's run last night could have very well be a PR run for him in better conditions (better pacing, better weather, no rain on the track). Yes, this is basically his peak shape from cross country, and he's going to back off now and start building up a base again, but for the first time since his freshman track season, his medication has got him back to feeling how he use to feel (like when he ran 28:15), and he's only added strength and maybe some speed since then. The fact that he ran this race effortlessly, running negative splits, bodes very well for him in the future. I'm just going to send some positive vibes out there and say he runs under 28:00 in 2007. Dobson, Ritzenhein, and many others have done it while in college. Why not Rupp?

If you would have watched the flocast interview with Salazar, you would know that his coach (Salazar, not Vin) was "allowing" Rupp to work out with the team in order to help their training and morale and that during the spring, he'll be "training with Dan and Adam" while taking online classes. Also, Salazar points out that "Galen is taking a full courseload this fall", because somebody who is probably supported under-the-table by Phil Knight and Nike doesn't have to take a full courseload when he is actually training hard and not with his team. All this shit with Oregon ruins their legacy in my mind... but who cares what I think... I'm sure none of you.

Except he ran with a nike jersey on. Not an oregon one.
How long before he appears in a nike commercial running laps with the other Oregon Project members?
How long before we can buy the Nike Rupp?
How long before we start seeing swooshes on "STOP GALEN" T-shirts?
I wear Nike gear all the time at road races. Does this mean I'm being sponsored by Nike now?
I agree. Who knows if it is actually Galen taking said "online classes". It doesn't matter though. The kid has it made. Getting a college degree from Oregon U., being a full-time runner, and having people suck his..... oh well, this is a ramble.
