How fast do you think the typical distance runner who breaks 15 on track can run a mile in?

so far i'm 14:42 and 4:15. I think i'm pretty typical.
I ran 14:57 and 3:57 1500m. So, 4:15 Mile? I'm sure there are sub 15min guys who have a hard time going under 4:20 mile.
a 15:00 5k'er can probaly run around 4:12 in the mile and maybe 9:15 2mile.
My teammate has run 14:50 in the 5k and only run 4:01 for the 1500, he has zero speed though. All depends on the runner, cause there are guys that can go 3:56 in teh 1500 but no break 15 so there can be a huge range.
Had a teammate last year who ran just under 14:50 and only ran 4:05 for the 1500-something like 4:23?
My mile PR is 4:32, and I've run 15 flat for 5k. I haven't run the mile in years. My guess is if I focused I could run 4:12-4:15.
My friend posts a mile best of 4:25 and 5k best of 14:38, both run in the same indoor season.
4:00 1500 (4:18ish mile) and a 14:42 5k a week apart. So your friend still takes the cake.
For what it is worth I ran 15:04 for the 5000 and 4:26 for the mile in the same indoor season.
my teammate who ran 1501 ran 359 in the 1500...i'd say average sub 15 5ker can run a 4:16 to 4:20, so 4:18 average if you really want to get specific. because if the 5k is their best event and their running 15 flat, they aren't going to be running 4:12 probably.
14:30 5k
4:04 1500
I first broke 15:00 by the hair of my chinny chin chin with a 14:59.7. At the time, my best mile was 4:31.3, but I squeaked out a 4:28.1 by the end of that season. So I was roughly a 4:30 miler when I was running 15:00.
I'd guess the average 15-flat guy would run about 4:19-4:20 for the mile.

I squeaked by less than you, 14:59.83. To this day I've never run a full mile or even 1600 under 4:30, even though I've managed 53.6 in the open 400. I've run a couple 4:33's indoors, and I closed an indoor 3k in ~4:31, but that's about it. My 1500's are a bit faster but still worth a 4:22+ mile. Oh well...
according to iaaf profiles werkenesh kidane ran 415.8 for her best 1500 and she has run 1433 for 5k and 3007 for 10k, her far superior times at 5 and 10k compared to her 1500 time, is one of several reasons i tell anyone who will listen of all the girls she has the best shot at breaking radcliffes marathon record radcliffes 1500 is 404 and her 5 and 10k are 1429 and 3001 indicating she is far faster than kidane at 1500, but only slightly faster at 5 and 10k, and kidane is 10 years younger and kidane is much smaller than radcliffe an advantage in the marathon and kidane has beat radcliffe in their last 2 races, both at 10k.
5k pr is 15:09 (last spring) but I should get under 15 by mid-February if all goes as planned and my mile pr is 4:35.....and that was a split in a relay. 1500m pr is something like 4:18. So I think I'll be the winner for the slowest mile when I actually do go under here in a few months.
Beat this: 3:53 1500 >> 15:26 5k...
And physical tests indicate I should be a 5k/10k type of runner? :o
I ran a 14:30 PR and my mile PR (1500 eq) was 4:20's that season. PR a season later of 4:15.
1600 - 4:24
5000 - 14:24
Only tried the mile once since senior year of high school and I ran slower...but I'm sure I could run sub 4:20.
In high school:
Mile - 4:20
5k - 15:09
